About calling cards...
I'd like to call my family back in Finland, but I don't know where to get a good calling card. I've heard that a lot of card deals online are hoaxes, and I'd prefer not to become a victim of one. Still, online deals are usually the best with the best rates. Does anyone here call Europe using a calling card, and is there one you could recommend?

My friend and I had a discussion about this not to long ago. We both decided, independently of each other, that 7-11 phone cards were the best. I've never had a problem with a 7-11 card, and the rate seems to be pretty good.
You could also go the online phone card route. There are some sites that rank 'em. I've never tried an online card though.

actually Walmart has some pretty good calling cards....decent rates and no hidden charges. Try your local gas stations or convienient stores...here in Canada thats where I have found the best deals. Good luck!

i'm gonna suggest something. have you tried the VoIP route?
now i know that finland is one of the most connected countries in the world, i'm wondering if you and those you love over there could run some kind of program like netmeeting or skype and just use yoru computers, bypassing the whole paying for using thousands of miles of outdated copper wires thing altogether. one other thing to remember, people. he's not just calling his aunt in buttfuck, iowa. he's making an overseas call that's going to cost much more per minute than a domestic call. experience with overseas calls using calling cards is what he's looking for.

I currently call Austria, Vienna a lot from San Diego and have had nothing but priase for phone cards from PinionSale.com. I pulled up this link and recieved the following rates...
![]() http://www.pinonsale.com/search.asp?...alue=Any+Value So depending if you plan on talking for a long time or just call often for shorter periods you can get a rate as low as .48 Cents (Yes less than half a cent!) a minute, but with a 49 cent connection fee! If you'll be calling more often, the rate is still low at 1 cent a minute with no connection fee. Note, sometimes I'll call a cell phone in Austria and the rate is nearly 5x the rate to call a land line. So beware if you're calling a cell phone overseas! |
