My new pet
 

My roommate and I just bought a guinea pig a week ago, and I felt I should introduce you guys to him. He's 11 weeks old.

Guinea pigs have always scared me. They are too skittish. Now fish- there is a pet I can appreciate. Calm, peaceful, tranquil. Give me a good goldfish anyday!

They don't grow pigs very large in Guinea, do they? Not much bacon from that one!

Not at the moment there's not, but Bacon was almost his name. We went for something a little more deep ;)

Just make sure the lil' guy doesn't get out of the cage. Our little gerbil (sp?) some how managed to sneaked out of the cage when I was little and that thing caused hell for the family for a good 2 MONTHS!! He chewed through everything and shit all over the closet, under the bed and even pissed on some of my mom and dad's clothes. We finally caught him after moving the bed and clearing everything out of my parent's closet, he died shortly after that though, probably from all the stuff he eat....I really like that gerbil too...:(

I hate to say this, but I just shot a BIG gray one like that in my back yard this morning...wish I would have known you wanted one....shipping would have been minimal...:D

I used to have one myself when I was a kid and he ran away now and then so I got good practise chasing him so I should be able to catch yours easily ;)

What is it with people and big furry rats; gerbals, Guinea pigs, and ferrets confuse the hell out of me. People kill rats with a passion, but keep these almost rats around as pets. Weird. But hey, different stokes for different folks. I like pets that kill those animals, like my kitty :)

I think he's cute -- congrats.

My son inherited a (dragon?) lizard this weekend -- now that is one interesting pet.

Very cute. Does he purr for you yet? They make the cutest rodent noises around.

He sure does. My roommate and I decided he sounded like a video game... kind of like Super Mario Brothers - the jumping sound...

Being poor university students, he's our back-up plan should we ever become poor enough to not even afford mac and cheese. ;)

Ferrets would fall into the same category as your kitty, wouldn't they? At least, they don't belong with the gerbils and guinea pigs, anyhow. Free the ferrets!

Awww I <3 guinea pigs. Used to have an assload of them.

Ahhaah. That reminded me of those gerbil stuffing stories. Except an assload of guinea pigs? Those things are a tad bigger than gerbils.

I love him!! I really want to get a Guinea pig, but I can't have them in my dorm. I've wanted to get one for a while. They are the cutest little things on the face of the planet! Good luck with Socrates!!

oh gosh, i am seriously jealous . . . what a cutie pie!!! I knew someone who had one and she LOVED that thing . . . they get really attatched to their people! so cute!!!

He is pretty cute in that second photo I have to admit.

But since I am the proud owner of two female felines, any sort of rodent addition to the house would not be a good idea.

My wife loves these things... She had them when she was little and now want one for our kids...

Guinea Pigs just give me the willies... GPs and Rabbits... They freak me out.

Give me a Hamster, Mouse or even a Rat any day...

Ferret Lover. Don't knock 'em - you haven't tried 'em unless you love 'em.
 

No offense, LordEden, but a ferret isn't related to rat (more closely the otter, polecat, seals, their cousin the (wild) black foot ferret). Ferrets are misunderstood and can be a lot of fun. In truth, my ferret (wild or domestic) could kill your cat.
However, a ferret won't attack and isn't aggressive, so unless your kitty hurts it first, you have no reason to fear it. :)
In the future, please remember that ferrets are not related to rats - don't place them in the same catagory, please. :)

I got hampsters during junior high.


I'm never getting them again. Tenacious little beasts they are. They would chew on the plastic little connectors for doors and squeeze through to my room. There was also this little observational tower for them that they could crawl up to to look around, but instead they always used it as a bathroom.

We were also supposed to have two females, but apparently someone fucked that up because one of them had babies.

After giving birth, the mother then ate the babies.

A few months later they had babies again.

The mother ate an even larger proportion of the babies this time.

The male then somehow disappeared. I don't know where he went. He was out of his cage one day and we never found him. We freaking moved and we never found him. A few of the babies grew up a little, and we gave all of them away.

Do you take him for walks? A friend of mine takes his cat for walks around town (on a leash). He always gets strange looks. I bet you would get some funny reactions from people if you took him out on the town.
