I'm never getting them again. Tenacious little beasts they are. They would chew on the plastic little connectors for doors and squeeze through to my room. There was also this little observational tower for them that they could crawl up to to look around, but instead they always used it as a bathroom.

We were also supposed to have two females, but apparently someone fucked that up because one of them had babies.
After giving birth, the mother then ate the babies.
A few months later they had babies again.
The mother ate an even larger proportion of the babies this time.
The male then somehow disappeared. I don't know where he went. He was out of his cage one day and we never found him. We freaking moved and we never found him. A few of the babies grew up a little, and we gave all of them away.

I'm surprised you never learned about Hamsters, either on your own, in school, or by asking the associate who sold them to you.
If you put two Hamsters in the same cage, they will either procreate or one will kill the other. If the mother has babies, they must be seperated because the mother may eat them. (There are other animals that are known to do this - I.E. male cats and newborn kittens) I'm guessing you didn't know these common facts. I'm very sorry to hear that. It's a hard lesson to learn. I wish you better luck in the future. :)

If I had a guinne I'd take him for walks just for that very reason alone. I'm weird like that haha.

My sister and I each had hamsters when we were kids. We were really excited, but they were a bit boring. After a couple of months, one hamster killed/ate the other one and then died. I also had a gold fish that committed suicide, but that is a story for another thread...

no, see, thing is... the leash always seems good and secure, and then he gets out of it! So outside would not be a good place for him to run free. I just use it around the living room so he can run around in a bit more space than his cage permits.

That's a shame! He probably moves too slowly to take walks anyway...
