Little Milestones
So i've always sucked at running, and today I ran 1.5 miles without stopping. (Well, jogged really, but still)
I haven't done that since Basic Traning. I'm going to work in a good mood today. :D Anybody else do something that brought them even a slight smile? Milestones are important little buggers, and i've been working on that one for like a month. Wee! |

Congrats on your accomplishment. |
good thread :) also congratulations to you both ... i like running but i prefer a mountain bike
i did a 3 hour 25 mile bike ride on Monday. in the rain. i got up this bitch of a hill without having to get off, even though my bike is in poor shape. i went down a bitch of a track without falling over, even though it was made up of rocks. i made it back even though i was cold and wet and tired, and had done a 10 mile ride the previous day damn i'm good :) |

That "I made it back even though I was cold and wet and tired" part reminded me of a bike ride in college. Several of us went out one day lead by a guy really familiar with the area. For those that know the New Brunswick, NJ area, we went from Rutgers' Busch campus over to Washington Rock which is a bitch of a climb. It was a really great ride so a couple of days later I decided to do it again alone. I left around 3pm while it was still nice and light outside. Figured I'd easily be back before dark. Ended up getting lost but was enjoying myself so kept going. Washington Rock is somewhere in the Plainfield area and I went right through it and South Plainfield, Westfield, Clark, Elizabeth, and finally ended up outside Rahway State Prison. I knew I was north and east of New Brunswick so I started taking whatever roads led me south and west. Finally, around 9:30 I ended up in Edison. It was pitch dark and I came across a guy walking his dog. I nearly scared him to death when I came up and asked him how to get back to the school. He gave me some half assed directions (or I only half assed heard him) and I was off in the right direction. Finally around 10:45 I came across a familiar area and headed for home. Walked in the door to my dorm at 11:30. It was a crazy ride that took me through some really bad neighborhoods. In total I must have traveled a hundred miles. Of course, that was when I was crazy into working out for the Marine Corps. |
lol i know what it's like, sometimes getting back is just the best feeling ever
I'm lucky though, in an emergency my dad might give me a lift back. I hate to call him out but it's nice to know, if I destroy my bike or hurt myself badly. |
I just completed my first Half Ironman distance Tri. My time sucked, but at least I finished it. It was a brutal course to say the least. The fun part about it was that it was run on the same course as Ironman Worlds in Kona Hawaii, just half the distance.
Check it out...(not sure about that last photo though...its not me ;)) EDIT: Looks like they removed it. Photos |
I only have bad milestones, since I have yet to get into the action part of life.
For example, I discovered that I have a stretch mark. That is a milestone, as I just about cried and decided that I really, really, REALLY need to get into shape. That is serious, because there was one more really than the last time I said it. Soon, I will get sick of the word and actually start doing something about it. |
total respect for even finishing an Ironman course!
I have stretch marks too... doesn't everyone? |
I wouldn't worry about the stretch mark. Most people have them. In fact I weighed about 180 earlier this year for a while when I became lazy and wasn't too active. I got a few on my hips from that. No big deal though.
If some ones close enough to see them (which would mean me having my clothes off) , I hope their looking at something else ;) |
