Sweating at work...
 

This is a bit weird I guess, but it is a real problem for me, so any [serious] suggestions would be most welcome.

I work as a nursing assistant trainee at a local nursing home. I like the work and all that, but there is one thing that really bothers me: sweating.

I'm not used to this crazy Texas weather. Anything over 65 F is a heatwave to me. They can't turn the AC up much either since the residents get cold easily.

The thing is, I keep my head shaven, and thus the sweat gets in my eyes, not to mention it tends to drop off my head. And I'm not talking about being just a tad sweaty, I mean it looks like I just took a shower with my scrubs on - all the time.

It's quite embarrassing. It's also annoying because I help serve food to the residents and I have to keep a hanky in my pocket to wipe my head every two minutes so I don't have sweat dripping into the resident's meals as I bus the trays.

Gross? Yeah.

I can't wear a cap or a hat of any sort, really, and letting my hair grow is out of the question (trust me).

I wonder if there's any sort of medicine or invisible cooling balm or anything that would prevent perspiration on my head. I realize it's unlikely and this is an odd problem, but it really really bothers me and interferes with my work a bit.

I would suggest seeing a doctor. I don't know if you'll find anything over-the-counter that will be very effective, but a doctor might be able to give you a perscription for a heavy duty antipersprant.

I had a thyroid disorder and after I got it fixed I sweated uncontrolably. I went to the doc and he was able to give me some stuff the really helped a lot.

it will close your pores on top of your head, but trust me you will get hotter.

the ideal thing IMHO is to aclimate yourself to the weather/region

the sweating will subside once you are part of the area you are living within.

Can you wear a terrycloth headband, as used in sports like tennis? It's not technically a cap.

Another solution: smoothies made with ice. Do you have access to the kitchen? Do they have heavy-duty blenders? Blend small-size ice cubes (bring your own from the liquor store if them don't have them) with some orange juice (and a banana if you want to get fancy) for a bargain-basement smoothie.

I thrive in cool weather also, and when the heat gets to me, an ice-cold smoothie really dissapates body heat. I mean, seriously. Stops sweating, peps me up, everything. Anyway, it's about the coldest thing you can eat that goes down smoothly, and it _really works._

would a headband work?

My dad sweats like this. He's in great health and all, but he just sweats!!

You COULD wear a turban on your head, like he does sometimes when it starts dripping in his eyes...or, you could try what everyone else is saying.

We have a few cooling bandanas laying around the house. The beads inside them absorb the cool water so there is no watery dripping mess. They don't usually stay cool very long. I guess you could turn it over a little and find a cool spot. But once the beads are fully saturated you have to let it dry for like 2 days before using it again.
