I think I am dyslexic
I mean there has to be a reason why I have trouble learning any new material in college. I honestly don't know how I have a GPA of 3.0 as I am graduating from college. Truth be told, I barely remember any of the material I have learned over the 4 years. Often when i read, I find myself not remembering ANYTHING from the previous pages. It's like I am seeing the words, but that's about all that's happening. I go back and re-read, and it still doesn't enter. I have trouble concentrating and yada yada yada. Any advice? Personal stories?
Thanks. |

I don't think you are dyslexic, maybe have poor reading comprehension, but not dyslexic.

Take brief notes... read each paragraph with questions in mind - what is the main point of this paragraph? what does the author argue? etc... actively manipulating the material you read while you read it helps commit it to memory.
Of course, lack of sleep, distractions, and other conditions of poor mental health can severely hinder this process.

When I was studying for my CFA I was about 2 years out of university. I couldn't for the life of me concentrate on what I was reading. I had to keep re-reading the paragraphs over and over again. I noticed that I was would start a sentance and then skip to the next or to the end without finishing it.
After finishing the chapter, I'd be as lost as I was before I started reading it so then I would have to reread the bloody thing.

You're not dyslexic, you're just not paying enough attention.
My wife has dyslexia, and it's nothing like that. She has trouble with "E" and "3", as well as left and right. Small, annoying crap like that, and she only has a minor case. |

Being dyslexic and having been a student I can say that you probably aren't dyslexic. (There are various symptoms besides reading, like not being able to write or type worth a damn, thank god for spell check, grammer check, and every other form of check) However, you may be suffering from some form of ADD, but more likely you are just an average student like the rest of us.
