I've been looking into this organization called S.W.A.P (Students Work Abroad Program) and I want to use them to travel to Ireland for a year to work and see the country . Is anyone out there familiar with them and if so, do you have any tips for someone venturing into this type of thing? Or just in general, can anyone give me any good advice for my first trip overseas by myself? Anything would be greatly appreciated

I've not heard of SWAP, but years back, I did a summer in France with AFS (if they're still even around)
The worst part of the trip, was staying with the host family -- words can't do justice how awful it was, and how awful this family was. But others had better experiences with it -- so I'd look into where you'd be staying.

my wife did a stint in Iceland with a host family. We will be visiting them when we are in Iceland next month. She loved it but then felt she needed to leave when one of the kids moved back home.
I forgot the organization that she did it through but she was able to make it happen. good luck to you.
