Things to do in London when you're Dead
Well, not dead, but on vacation.
I'm heading up to London, England during the month of May. I have a bunch of things I'm going to do, but plans WILL fall through, so I'm looking to have a good list of other things. What are the must see places/things/activities while I'm over there? Thanks for any advice! |
If you could tell us the bunch of things you are going to do - Then we can tell you about other things you could do :)
Seriously, If I said take a bus tour of the city and you said I'm gonna do that as one of the bunch of things to do - then I'd feel foolish :) I take short trips to London -- I see a play - Meet friends, and go to a pub one night with old acquaintances - Fly back to New York. Do Visit the British Museum,Tower of London,Harrods,British Library,HydePark ..... |
The boat cruise that goes from near Westminster Abbey up to Greenwich is fanastic. There's also another cruise, that's seasonal that runs to Windsor Castle.
Kensington Palace has beautiful gardens surrounding it. Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is kinda cool, but be prepared to wait forever in line depending on time of day that you go. Westminster Abbey is really neat. The Fleet Street area holds St Brides Church (the steeple looks like a tiered wedding cake) THe Globe Theatre if you have any interest at all in Shakespeare. The Tate Modern is a really neat museum, the glass topped reading room of the British Museum is spectacular, the crown jewels at the Tower of London The Changing of the Guard I thought was boring, I enjoyed myself more escaping London and heading to the Lakes Region, or Canterbury or Stonehenge or Bath If it's a nice day, and only if it's a nice day, the London Eye is great from some pretty impressive views of London. On a clear day you can see forever, on a miserable day, you can't see squat. |
The London Eye give a good view on a clear day
Hampstead Heath is a nice bit of wilderness in the city... check out the hill where they fly kites. One of my favourite places to drink with friends is Gordon's Wine Bar (I think it is on Villiers Street just next to Embankment and Charing Cross tube stations). The Tate and the Tate Modern are both good Galleries... |
London Eye is a must
Tons of museums of all types Carnaby street for alternative shopping There's something for every kind of person. Pick up a weekly Time Out magazine for lists of nightlife, dining, pubs, theater, music, art, and film! |
