I havent had an alcoholic drink in 10 days...
What is the longest you have ever gone without drinking (since you started drinking)?
This is the second longest time I have ever been without a drink since I was 16 (the longest was 6 weeks, when I was 17 until the week after my 18th birthday, after I got alcohol poisoning) |
Three months in boot camp, in 1989, then a couple of stretches at sea (10, 15, 30 and 45 days ) during the first gulf war. (US forces are DRY aboard ship, and we are ALWAYS extremely happy to see the British Royal Navy because of their lovely little daily rations :) )
Since then...I'm not sure, but I had my first glass of wine last night since my daughter was born on the 13th...that's about 12 days (knocked me on my ass too! ) . -bear |
I used to stop drinking for two weeks in college whenever I blacked out. Other than that, I just don't track it, because, though I drink often, I rarely drink much.
Good for you on dryng out for a while, SF. I think you'll be a happier person for it. |
I don't drink much, or often, so it's not a big deal for me not to have a drink for a month or more.
Congrats on getting on that wagon SF. It sounds like it'll be good for you. Good luck :) |
Well, I don't know. I've never really kept track. There are times I might go a month or so without anything. I usually have something at least once a week, but do go on stretches without.
|
hmm probably about a year and a half, The first time I got drunk it was really bad, so I didn't bother with it again for a while. nowadays I drink occasionally with my friends but i'm not a big drinker.
|
congrats, sf-
I haven't had a drink since...let's see.....the 27 of March, I believe. I am not a big drinker. |
100% support you for cutting back.
I've been up to a couple months between beers and I've had a 6 pack last in the fridge up to 6 months. No, I don't drink alot. |
New Years what the last time that I had a beverage. I was getting a little nervous with the amount that I had been drinking prior. So I stopped. I have to be honest, I don't miss it. Good for you bro.

Months? Don't know how many, possibly as high as 6 or more. I probably drink a dozen drinks a year at this point, mainly because I'm in a social group with a bunch of people having a beer, and don't have "I'm driving" as an excuse.
I spent some time playing with mind states in university (sugar, caffene, alchohol, lack of sleep, other), and I've decided that it isn't worth the bother: you can get most of the effect without the stimulus anyhow. So, I dialed for contentment, and stopped. |
Good for you. I seem to remember that you were concerned with your physical condition because you were drinking fairly heavily several nights a week. So what you're doing now should help immeasureably.
I probably go as along as a year without a drink sometimes, because a) I don't go out much, b) the wife doesn't drink so the social aspect isn't there, and c) without the social aspect there's no reason. Maybe once in a while when I'm really stressed I'll have a beer or a glass of wine; and I drink so seldom that even that small amount of alcohol affects me substantially. |
Let's see the longest I have gone with out a drink since I joined my fraternity was 10 days and that was because I was sick. I won't be drinking a sip this summer just to prove myself I can do it.
|
Good for you SF.
I probably go about a month between drinks. I never have the time to make it a liquor store, and I don't want the calories of beer. So its been a while. |
Heheheh....since summer of 2002.

Good going SF!
I don't like drinking by myself, and my current schedule is so cluttered that I MIGHT get to go out on weekends and get loaded. But, I know I've gone for long stints (months and months) without any alcohol. Course, my preferred inhibitor is marijuana, I've gone a couple months without since I started smoking, and I decided this year to only buy for special occasions (holidays where I party with friends, and vacations). I'm getting to that point where I don't feel at all I'm going overboard with anything. It's a good feeling. |
I never started drinking until I was 27 yr old. Just too religious. Since then I don't have much tolerance for what it does to me so drink small amounts rarely. I'd say I have a couple beers or wine worth no more than once a month and usually when we're at a swinger party. Sometimes it's less frequently than that. I think the longest I've gone since I started was 3 months at a time. I just don't have the desire. Alcohol mostly just makes me sleepy. I'm bold enough that I don't need liquid courage and I know how to relax using my own mind.

The wagon - It does a body/mind good!
I go on the wagon for months at a time. I usually stop drinking because it is no longer part of a happy healthy lifestyle. I believe that people have different reasons for drinking and when it is having a negative affect they need to take a break. The reason a person drinks is (IMO) the key. I love to partake in a few while listening to music or around a campfire. I rarely go to bars. Some people should never drink. Ever. Drinking will never be a positive thing for them and will only cause problems. Good luck in your efforts. May they pay vast dividends! |
I often go two or three months between drinking.
Like everyone says, good to hear you've cut back! |
I rarely go long without a drink--I love a good cabernet, or a good ale or stout, and drink one or the other several times a week. Rarely more than one though. I prefer to measure between the times that I get loaded. Longest Ive gone without getting pretty tipsy since entering college was one month.

I've only drank alcohol 3 times in my entire life. So when someone says "I haven't had a drink in ten days" it fails to impress me :) Seriously though, that stuff is a bad news brotha if you aren't careful. If you consider yourself special because you haven't had a drink in ten days then I'd say you might have a bit of a problem.

sure i have done some drinking in my days, but it just never left that memorable impression on me. not enough to make me drink often. i had a beer a couple of weeks ago, i didn't even finish it. |
I've only had 3 beers in the last 9 months...I can say I really don't miss it.
|
I'm not a teatotaller, but I've never been what you'd call "drunk". Maybe a little buzzed, until I noticed it and stopped drinking. I've done that once or twice. Alcohol just isn't where I'm at. Food is.
If it's a problem for you, and you've managed to cut back on it, good for you!! Seriously! |
Congrats on going 10 days. One day at a time!
