Returning a plunger?

The wife and I bought a plunger to try and unclog the "crapper". It didn't work. It just wouldn't create a proper vacuum, and believe me, I tried. It's not exactly brain surgery, using that thing. I think it is the design of the toilet (this thing dates back to the 70's I believe) that isn't compatible or something.

We bought another one, that at least looks better. (add eyeroll here) But doesn't work any better.

The wife wants to return the first one we bought. Maybe both. I'll let her do it, I won't be caught dead trying to return a plunger with a straight face, regardless of what sort of story she's going to cook up.

Have you ever returned an item like that? Will they even take it back? What an icky thought.

interesting conundrum... Most hardware stores don't exactly put used/returned items back on the shelf... so I'd say you could go ahead and return it.

just say it didn't work, I don't see why they would refuse it.

if you want to return, instead of giving the excuse that it didn't work, i'd lie and use another excuse. i don't even think the store would refund a used plunger.

to me, returning a used plunger falls under the same category as returning used underwear - it shouldn't be allowed.

It's not a hardware store, it's an HEB, which is kind of like WalMart except doesn't have as much non-food supplies. It's basically a big grocery store with a small variety of other items.

I don't think my wife is going to say we used it. I think she'll say we didn't need it after all, as our friend had one, or whatever.

I think she'll be okay. I know people return all sorts of stuff to the Meijers near us. Just be glad she's not asking you to do it.

I know this doesn't have to do with returning the plunger but I thought I'd mention it.

I regard to uncogging the toilet. Our particular design has a small hole at the front of the bottom of the toilet. When using the plunger (I've tried several kinds) it always pushes water out that little hole and ruins the suction/pressure. I've found that putting a rag towel down just enough to cover that hole and then putting the plunger over the bottom/over the end of the towel that it blocks the hole and the plunger - any kind - actually work. Just a thought should you get in the bind again.

Stores like that and places like Home Depot has a pretty good return policy and they don't restock returned itmes. They also have a policy in place that states returned items are to be destroyed.

Wanna bet? I used to work at Home Depot. Whatever got returned got put on the shelves, even if it was slightly busted. Hell, even if it wasn't ours, we'd pay for it and then sell it higher.

That does not happen at the Home Depot here. I work with a charity and Home Depot donates building items to the store, or has them destroyed. They never restock items.

So's my wife.

Anyway, she took it back. She almost blew it, accidentally saying something that made the girl behind the counter say "you USED it?!", but she made up something and they took it back...

Hey, it was like 5 bucks.

Now THAT was a funny response Prince!

I can't believe I was actually entertained with this thread!

By the way, I wouldn't have taken the plunger back. I'd be too embarrassed to think that they may be wondering just what in the hell I produced that wouldn't budge!
And they are cheap. *shrugs*

For a plunger? Whatever you call that place you shop, don't call it a discount store.

The real cause of the problem was the toilet. It didn't work with either the turd or the plunger. Must need to be replaced.

Heh. I'll take some of the blame, as I do cut brownies that are big enough to have their own congressmen...but it wasn't just my fault. The other apartments in the building have had problems too. Our neighbour had a pool of shit floating next to the house, a pipe was broken underground or something...lovely.
