i'm so lazy...

how do you get yourself to stop being lazy?
i don't care about important things anymore.
everything just seems so pointless that i dont even bother with it!!
but it IS important.
im about 12 hours behind on my schoolwork, and what am i doing?
calmly sipping cocoa ad wondering how long it will take me to beat this dumb game!
and maybe if i should even try to draw an anime character!
You know how i should spend tommorrow? the minute i get home, 10 hours of homework, and some time doing employment research. but i'm probably just gonna up and watch t.v.!
but you know what...? its not just the attuide!
when i finally FORCE myself to do some damned work, i lose concentration in like 5 minutes! and i get irritated by 10 minutes, and by 15 minutes i give up and mindlessly wander off!
I waste my time doing pointless things, and im so behind its scary!
and here i am! but i dont care!
normally when im behind on something, i feel panicky and i must catch up NOW! or i cant relax. And i do it until its done! this feeling...im pretty sure its concentration...just...vanished!! about a month ago!
at this rate, ill get some D's in school.
but i wont care!
i cant FORCE myself to work...ive tried!
if i wake up and its 7:10, i should get up! but ill just roll over and wake up in 45 minutes and throw on some clothes and walk out the door!
i cant stand this!!! I cant do ANTHING BUT BE LAZY!!! ARRRRRRG!!!!!
but you know what scares me the most?
i just dont feel like ive lost concentration, it feels like someting....SOMETHING....has taken over! and forcing me to be lazy!
i know, thats sounds dumb. but its true.
so.....with that....im going to sleep....

Hack your brain? Figure out what it takes for you not to be lazy, and do it to yourself.

Stop watching TV, period. Don't allow yourself to start procrastinating. Feel pride at your success at "not procrastinating".

Could you be a bit depressed? Or have some other condition you're not aware of? Speak with your doctor if you like.

seems like you feel overwhelmed by the "big picture"

maybe you need to break it down into smaller chunks... 10 hours seems like a long time, but a little delayed gratification and an hour here and an hour there, eventually adding up to the 10 hours needed.

It sounds to me like you've lost sight of your goal. Dig down deep and remind yourself why you are doing this work. What you want to accomplish in the future. What life, what job you need to feel comfortable.

I know kind of how you feel, Karby. It's a lack of motivation that kills me. I think I may just have to get it together and start studying and reorganizing my life so that's it's not as stressful or boring. I've started working out, and I think that's helped, but for school I just have a hard time getting on the ball. I need more deadlines, I guess. Anyway, good luck on getting going on what you need to do, I'm there with ya.

A year ago this is similar to how i was, and to some extent now still am. What did I do... Well, mainly set a goal of what I want, and go for it. When it comes to school I break things down into chunks, I can't focus for more than 15 minutes at a time on something I'm not interested in, so I read a bit here, go do something (clean, post something on tfp), and come back and do some more reading.

Another thing I've found... I CANNOT study at my house, there's computers, tvs, stereos, distractions in every room. I really CAN'T focus with distractions. So, I either walk to the public library (exercise helps my mind get moving), or ride my bike down to the park, and find a picnic table to study at. I sit at the table, or next to a window, and when I start losing focus, I look up, observe my surroundings, watch what other people are doing, watch the guy playing with his dog in the field, watch the lady yelling at her kids trying to get out of the stroller (my break), then, after I smile to myself, I get back to what I'm doing.

I still have a problem waking up in the mornings. I'll set my alarm an hour ahead of the time I need to be at class, and will hit snooze, and go back to sleep till the last possible moment, and will then get up, throw on some clothes, and go. I'm currently trying to improve this, and well, the only times I've been successful is when my alarm gets off I get up, put my shoes on, and some shorts and a shirt and go for a short jog, or bike ride. After 5 - 10 minutes of forcing myself outside I'm wide awake and ready to get moving, but I still have a problem just getting up out of bed (part of this I blame on having a basement room that is pitch black cause of no sunlight).

That's another thing. When I have no scheduled responsibilities (ie... school, work), I'll lay in bed, and then when I wake up I'll spend two hours just doin' BS stuff before I'm really ready to get moving for the day. When I have places I have to be, I'm going and going all day, I get more errands done on my busy days than on my days with nothing planned at all.

I think it's mainly a mindset thing, you have to determine for yourself what you want, and then you have to set your mind to it. Once your subconcious accepts that you'll get down to business.

kutry[B] has some good suggestions. Definitly try to exercise, especially if you are not right now. It stimulates the mind more than you'd think, and also just generally gives you more energy. Removing yourself from all distractions is key. I try to acoid studying at home where there is to much do catch my attention.

It's all about getting burnt out buddy.

Sometimes all you really need is a good vacation.
If that isn't an option, make it one.
It's much more appealing than having no desire to get things done in life.

I'm serious about overworking yourself... a friend of mine is working through stress-induced amnesia. It'll happen one way or another. Your mind and body will find a way to demand a break if you do not offer a real no-stress solution.

By no-stress I mean getting away from all stress. Having no looming assignments hanging over your head, and just taking off. Living life. Experiencing without the worries.

Good luck with it.

change your attitude about work. You WANT to do work, it interests you. you enjoy working so much that you don't care to have any free time.

and yes, it is easier to say, but it's possible

You might want to consider seeing a psychologist and be evaluated for possible ADD. Your situation sounds exactly like what I was like in high school, and a prescription for ritalin or another medication might help when you need to study.

If you don't want to go the medicinal route, get yourself an egg timer, and give youreself 10-minute study blocks, separated by 5-minute breaks. After a week, move up to 15-minute blocks, still with 5-minute breaks. The next week, go up to 20. If you can't manage the next step, spend another week at the level you're at, then try again. Every hour and a half, take a 20-minute break.

Work on self-discipline, and you can probably do it, but even if you don't want medication, see if a psychologist can offer some tips on how to focus better, since you most likely do have ADD.

Sounds like you're totally just burnt out. I know exactly how you feel, I've been doing the same thing lately.
I dont have any suggestions for you though... I just force myself to get things done....
Except right now of course. I have a math exam tomorrow, and yet here I am.... *sigh*
