allergies? stress? what!

Ok, a little background.
Yesterday, right as I got home from work, I broke out in hives. I figured because it was a stressful day at work and because I am under a lot of personal stress as well, that my body was now taking this moment to let me know how stressed I was. So I sort of delt with it, slept and then went to work. As the day passed at work, the hives got better. Then again today, as soon as I got home, hives.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something airborne in my house making me break out.? Does anyone know?

Edit: Oh yeah... and if anyone has any good home remedies for hives... please!

When you come home from work, is there something in particular that you always eat or drink? Just a thought.

Alergic reaction, stress, or anxiety are things I would venture to guess. Take something with a little antihistamine, that will take care of it

A couple things to look into...
Are you eating anything different or more often than before?
Have you changed your laundry detergent, fabric softener, bath soap, soap on the sink, shampoo, or anything else that has fragrance added to it?

Usually if it's something in the air that you are allergic to you will end up with nasal allergy reactions. If it's hives it can be stress or contact dermatitis. I have gotten hives as a result of changing my fabric softener. There is a particular scent that Downy makes that bothers me. Not all the Downy scents though. I've gotten hives as a result of stress. If it's stress it will often be located in spots where nerve endings cluster. It doesn't alway follow that pattern all the time though. When I had the contact dermatitis I noticed the rash and hives anywhere and everywhere on my body. When I had the stress related hives I noticed it on the insides of my arms, thighs, wrists, and inside the elbow.

Take a look at where they are showing up on your body. Also take a close look at how you feel when you come home. If that is a stressful time it might help to carve out a short time, maybe 15 min even, to retreat to a quiet place and do something you enjoy. If you have family or others there at home when you arrive then comminicate to them your plans to take a moment to collect yourself but that you will be available as soon as you come.

I suggest that if the Hives don't quit coming back as often then you may need to see your Dr.

A couple of things that might help whether it's allergy or stress.
Oatmeal bath
Diaper rash cream - Make sure it has Zinc Oxide, Lanolin, and/or Dimethicone.
Lanolin (anhydrous or hydrous) - available without prescription but often kept behind the counter at the pharmacy.
Calamine Lotion
Cortizone cream (Don't use all over the body as you can absorb too much then.) It will help the itch.

If it is allergies then an oral antihistamine like Clorpheniramarine Maleate or Diphenhydramine HCL (Benedryl),
Also a topical antihistamine cream may help as well.

Keep the skin dry, exept for lotion or cream, and uncovered. When going out in the cold make sure you put an extra layer of lotion on any exposed areas. It could be aggravated my cold as well. Especially if it's in exposed areas like the face, neck or wrists.

Good Luck.
