the Med will be busy from now until just after the Olympics, if you are planning on going this year.
Hawaii, depending on the island would depend on my answer. I'm not a fan of Oahu which is the major tourist destination.

Both are great. I would say you need to try and fit both into your lifetime, so why not do what maked the most sense now based on deals and the time of year you can go (Med in the summer, Hawaii any other time). I have been to Maui twice. In October the water was great. It was a little more rough, and therefore not as clear, in January. But in January you get to see the whales.
In Maui, I would stay away from the big hotels that keep you far from the natural beauty of the island. Stay in a nice condo on the water. Eat out every other night and stay in and grill the others watching the sunset. It can be a very laid back and relaxing. It is my favorite place on the planet (so far). With a Med cruise you get history and elegance. You can relax on the ship and do heavy duty sightseeing during the day. If you cruise, you will set sail by late afternoon so you will eat on the ship for dinner at least. The French coast is amazing. Venice was wonderful. Trying to see Rome in one day is frustrating but worth the try.

if i were you i'd go to Hawaii. and take the opportunity to get away from the crowds and get out to the smaller islands.

if you do choose the Med cruise in your summer, then expect it to be VERY CROWDED.

How about this... a cruise in Hawaii. We did it and it was awesome. You get to see all the islands and don't have to change hotels 5 times. Most of the islands can be seen in a full day. You depart and return to Oahu so you can do that on your own. They usually spend two days in Maui.
Enjoy.

Oh heck yeah the Med! I have been to Hawaii a number of times and it takes a fair degree of effort to extricate yourself from the tourist trap that is that State. It is the land of $11 hamburgers. Go see something crazy and experience a wide variety of people instead of 80,000 couples from Ohio that just got married.
