Best Way to Shave Head
I have been shaving my head for several months now with a razor (Gillette Mach 3), and it takes a long time, and hurts like hell in the end. I'm convinced that there must be a better way. Please enlighten me as to what is the best method to shave my head.

I've been doing it for a couple of years now. Here's a few tips I would suggest:
1. Of course, the shorter your hair the easier it is to shave. I usually shave 2 or 3 times a week. And using a clean/sharp razor is key. I usually change blades after 3 or 4 shaves. 2. Like shaving your face, a post shower shave works best. I exfoliate with a loofah prior to shaving & the water softens the hair. But do not dry your head prior to shaving. Leave it wet. Also wet your razor before shaving. 3. Find the right type of shaving cream/oil/gel that works for you. Personally, I use a shaving gel (Nivea Shaving Gel w/moisturizer). 4. When applying shave cream/gel/oil massage it into the scalp. This is where a gel with moisturizer helps. 5. Shave. I use a simple Gillete Sensor razor and it works fine for me. Also, I try not to go over the same part of my head with the razor more than twice, otherwise I get razor burn. 6. When I'm done I rinse with cool water and lotion. Another thing I do, is fill the sink with warm water prior to shaving and submerge the can of shave gel in the water while I shower, then when I go to dispense the gel it is warm. I've found that it doesn't really matter if I shave with the grain or against it, however it might be different for you. You just ahve to experiment to find out. Hope this helps. |
I wish I could shave my head, but being a skinny, pale, caucasian guy I would be immediately mistaken for some sort of neo-fascist, white supremacist type. I think on balance, I'll live with the receding hairline.

I've been shaving my head on and off for over 5 years. I am rather lucky in that I have thin hair, but I have always just shaved in teh shower under hot water. Always make sure that your hair is sufficiently buzzed down if you haven't shaved in awhile, lather up with your favorite shaving creame and go to town. I have used just about every razor out there, basically, just use what is comforatable on your face. It normally takes me around 5 minutes, to shave. I go completely off of feel, running my hand behind the razor to see what I missed. Hope this helps.

Anyone ever used an electric razor on their heads? Just curious how well that works. I once had a friend who tried to shave his head for the first time in a hotel room in florida...we ended up with a bloody bathroom.

I used a hair trimmer with a 1/8" attachement on my head. There were patches that were much shorter (bare stubble) than others and I now use a 1/4" attachment.
I can do the macro on myself but I need my g/f to go over it and get all the spots I missed. I've got to do it every at least every two weeks or else it gets shaggy. |
I pretty much lather up like I'm shaving my face and just keep going with the Mach 3. No problems. Only nicked my self in a major way 1 time, and I've been doing it for about 9 years.
