I'm well on the wrong side of 50. I can't run anymore because of arthritis in my ankles and knees, and then there's that bad disk in my back and the knee my doctor says I should have swapped out for a nice titanium and ceramic model. I can't see anything further than arm's reach without glasses, can't read with them on, and I can't see in the dark anymore. I don't sleep worth a damn, and I'm cranky most of the time.
It isn't that I mind getting older, it's just the gradual system's breakdown that pisses me off. If, a month before death, you started going downhill, that'd be great. You have a couple weeks to get shit straightened out and then could just die. This nickle-dime shit is for the birds. Check, please?

You do what you can with what you got. Turned 30 this month but I don't act it at all. Contacts, glasses the whole bit not looking forward to the next vision upgrade and what the Doc tells me.

I've been discovering that "old" is a state of mind. I feel old when I don't feel well, when I'm tired, nostalgic, or just plain frustrated.
As for grey hair, I've had a streak of grey since birth (it used to look kind of blondish, but as I've grown older the color has changed to unmistakable grey) that is widening, and now is spreading to other areas. I used to like my streak because it was so distinctive, and it was an interesting contrast when I was younger. |
