How Much Sleep Do YOU Get?
I was curious: how much sleep do TFPers get per night?
You can average in weekends if you want, you don't have to. Mainly, I was just wondering about those who have class or work on the weekdays, but you can be as general as you wish. (This might be an awkward poll, but here it goes anyways...) |
added mine to the 6/7 range although it varies. I'll sleep 12 hrs at a stretch if you let me. class and life conspire otherwise ;) Generally wake up about 7 in a tissy thinking I'm late, look at hte clokc and go back to sleep for another hr.
|
^
That happens to me sometimes, too. |
Usually throughout the weekdays, I don't get much more than 6/7 hours of sleep a night. I just enjoy staying up late. But sadly, I also have to wake up pretty early. But usually on the weekends I sleep in pretty late, so that kind of makes up for it.
|
I usually get around 6-7 hours of sleep, and of course like 12-14 on the weekends if I don't have to get up. However, I am a HUGE nightowl. I'll stay up until 4am, even if I have to get up at 8am.
I have this thing in my mind, and if I think something's going on, or someone I want to talk to is around or something .. I can't sleep. Its hard to explain, but I'll be dead tired early on a Friday night or something, and I can't fall asleep if I think something is going on that I might miss. Weird. |
I get a lot of sleep these days -- 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 on weekdays, 11 on weekends. I used to sleep about 5 to 6 per night, but I took a class on the dangers of sleep deprivation and tried sleeping more. Turns out, I remember things so much better with this much sleep, that I study much less and get better grades without losing any free time. I actually get something out of going to lecture besides a quick snooze.
I highly recommend it. Next time you need to study, take a nap instead! |
generally I will sleep an average of 7 and a half hours, more on non-work nights, and weekends, and a whole lot less during the mwf-days.
Averages pretty close to what I should be getting though... |
Week: 4 / 5 hours
Weekend: 10+ hours I have some trouble getting enough sleep during the week.. I would need at least 8 hours of sleep per night |
week: 5hrs
weekend: 7-8hrs And I can't seem to sleep past 9, no matter how late I was up the night before... |

4 to 5 is fairly typical. I go to bed around midnight and get up at 5am. I almost never sleep more than 6 to 7 hours even after prolonged weeks of 4 or fewer hours of sleep per night.
|
I cant do anything the next day if I dont get at least 8 or 9 hours sleep coz im too tired. It pisses me off! :(
|
Ive gone thru different phases of sleep levels in my days.
I had been used to 5-7hrs/nite, now lately ive been around 7-8hrs. Sleep around 11, wake at 7am. Since ive been working out more rigorously, I feel the need to sleep a little longer, and it helps. I feel much better mentally and physically. Sleep is good people :) |
Never enough.
If left to my own devices - dark, quiet house, no alarms, no pets screaming to be fed - I'll sleep for 9 hours and probably STILL have a mid-day nap. Usually, though, I get about 6-8 hours, which is enough to keep me going. Ratbastid thinks I don't actually sleep much, since I'm kicking and twitching my legs all night long, hence the tiredness even after a lot of sleep. |
I generally try to get 7-8 hours of sleep. Any less and I'll be moody and easily agitated throughout the day. I also always try to get mid day naps if possible.
|
Not enough! I wake up tired every day. I can't fall asleep before 1 and if I do, I'll wake up early. Ususally can't get to sleep until 2 - 2:30.
|
Naps rule! There's nothing better than coming home from work, and then just in under a blanket on the couch with my girlfriend and sleep for an hour or so... I love it!
Usually I sleep for 6-7 hours, 8 if I go to bed early (and don't have sex) ;) |
I'd say I usually get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep. It all depends on when I go to bed, and how fast I fall asleep. Weekends usually mean more sleep.
|
I'm the only one in the 0-3 hours catagory! I'm an insomniac who doesn't like the sleeping drugs, so I'm kinda screwed. The nice thing is, I hit my REM in about 2.5 hours, so even if I do only get three or 3.5 hours of sleep I at least get to dream. After my cycle ends, I usually wake up on my own. I do enjoy a nice nap in the afternoon though . . . prolly around 30 minutes or so. . .

I never seem to want to go to sleep at night, but I never want to wake up in the morning. WHat a catch22!!
I work basically on a 2-7 sleep schedule. |
I usually only get 5/6 hours a night, but try not to sleep in too much on the weekends because it just makes it that much harder to get up when Monday comes around again.
|
hmm usualy zabout4 a night and on sunday ill sleep till noon... however after stretching my self out on 4 hour sleep nights i tend to pass out after work... not intentionally tho... usualy somewhere in my room... in some uncomfortable way
|
My sleep schedule varies a lot. Sometimes I only get 3 hours for 2-3 nights in a row. Sometimes I sleep 12 2 nights in a row.
But the majority of the time I get 5-9 hours. It's a little closer to 5 I think, so I voted 6/7. |

I usually get about 7 hours during the week when I have class. On the weekends, anything from 8 to 12 hours is common. |
6-7 every night, including weekends. I can get by on 5 and function well enough. One of the benefits of getting old.
|
About 7 hours each weeknight.
If no alarms are set on the weekends, anywhere from 7 to 10 hours. Lately I've been reverting to my night owl schedule on weekends - up till 2 or 3 am, and sleep till 11 or noon. |
I'm a nightowl and usually get 6.5 to 7 hours a night. 8 hours seems to long most of the time and 5 leaves me tired.
|
For a week, I got maybe 6 hours of sleep total. It got to the point where I was too tired to sleep. Since then (a week now), I've taken sleeping pills everynight and I get about 8 hours of restless sleep.
|
i only get to sleep about four to five hours a night, during the week, mainly because i like to stay up for a few hours to get some alone time with my wife, but on the weekends i usually catch up with about ten on each night.
|
Lately I've found that I can only sleep around four hours at a time. I will sleep 3.5 to 4.5. Get up for 2 or so, then sleep another 2 or so.
Apparently this is a yet another novel twist in a lifetime of unusual sleep habits. |
I get between 5-6 usually. I would like to get more, but damnit, all the good tv is on late and work always starts so early...

I've been getting about 4-5 hours a night. I've had a bit of insomnia recently. I'll sleep more on Friday/Saturday nights, but usually only if I've had a few.
|
I may get 8 but it is seldom consecutivly. I may get a couple hours of sleep, be up for 5 or 6 hours, get 5 hours more hours of sleep then up for 12 hours.
This month it has been even less than that. |
For me, it's typically something like 6 or 7, unless my insomnia is kicking in.
I've had it since as long as I can remember, and sometimes i'll go several days with zero sleep, no naps, no nothing, but i'll feel perfectly fine. And then, one day i'll just feel sleepy at the normal sleep time, get a normal-length sleep and go back to normal like it never happened. It's weird. |
It seems like the older I get, the less sleep I need. I never can sleep more than about 7 hours a night - even if I'm really tired. It's always funny to me when peple like to sleeep alot, I just can't imagine spending that much time sleeping.
|
sleep? I acaully get a lot of sleep 6 or 7 hours a night but thats still not enough i need more like 12
|
On the weekdays, I usually go to sleep at midnight and wake up at 6h. So that's about six hours. On the weekends, I'll go to bed at midnight, and wake up at around 8h. So that's about eight...
|
I sleep constantly and always have. I can go to bed at 10pm and still sleep till 12 in the afternoon. Does anyone else have this problem? I get tired out really easily and take alot of naps during the day too. I'm even prescribed Adderall as a stimulant to help keep me awake. It becomes a problem because alot of the time I'm too tired to study, get dressed, go to school etc. It makes my parents mad because they think I'm being lazy, but I really am tired! I even get mad at myself because I can't get alot accomplished during the day because I'm so worn out.
I have been tested for diabetes but don't have it and do have a light case of anemia, where I can't skip meals but other than that doctors can't find anything wrong with me. I have been diagonsed with depression and take medications to help it out which work (sometimes). That's the only thing I can think of that would make me so tired. Even though I want to get things finished and not sleep! By the way do you dream in color or black and white? I dream in color, my mom in B&W. If you speak another language, do you dream in English or your native tongue? I sleep so much that I've learned to control my dreams which is kinda neat. I always dream at night too. In my dreams I have taught myself to fly and when something bad might happen in a dream, I tell people off or leave because I know I can! |
The amount of sleep i get changes night to night- sometimes as little as 3-4 hours to as much as 13-15 hours.
|
6/7 depends on if I have stuff going on if I get to sleep more. Work kind of interferes.
|
I usually get about 5/6 hours a night on weekdays and on weekends around 6/8 hours.
I know some people who must sleep 10-12 hours a night or else they can't function properly its odd. |
6/7 is my average on weekdays. There are extreme days where I got 0-4 hours of sleep, or 9-11 hours of sleep.
|
It usualy changes 6-7hrs on week days more if they let me on weekends and duty days can be as low as 2 or 3
|
6-7 during the week, up to twelve on the weekends depending if i'm going snowboarding/bodyboarding that morning
|
its finals week so i've been getting less.
5 or 6 hrs. my normal is anywhere from 7-10 |
I usually get about 6-7 hours of sleep each night. I get close to 13 hours on Wednesday nights. I have Thursdays off, so I reeeeaaaalllyy sleep in.
|
I try for about 7 or 8 since I get cranky with 6 or less. Just ask hubby (dei37) he'll vouch. Mostly though I get to sleep/bed around 10/11pm but on weekdays I have one little girl that I watch for parents that work second shift. They're normal shift would bring them home around 11:00 but they usually work overtime till 12:00am and last week was until 1:00am every night. So I go to "bed" on the couch at 10 or 11 and then at 12:00 or 1:00 after the parents pick up their kid I check to see if I can get into my bed or if hubby is sprawled across the whole thing. It's only a full size bed and he's not easy to wake so when he's sprawled all across it then it can be nearly impossible to find a spot to sleep that isn't half falling off the edge. So Sometimes I sleep those 7/8 hours on the couch all night.
|
Just depending on what is going on in my house. I try to get more than 9 hours but I usually get somewhere between 5-7 hours. I need alot of sleep but I hardly ever get it.
|
when I have to go to class the next morning i get about 6/7 hours but on weekends, i can sleep up to 12 hours! I love to sleep! I have a lot of dreams, usually crazy ones with a lot going on and usually they are in color
|

1-2 more hours of sleep will do you a lot more good than 1-2 more hours studying per day. That's just been my experience. |

I usually get about 7 hours of sleep during the week, 8 on the weekends.
|
I said 4/5 because there are some weeks where I get 0-3 on average, and other weeks where I get 4-6 on average... Then I sleep in a ton on the weekends, so I figured I'd just go with a 4 hour average.
There's been some weeks like the other week where I slept 9.5 hours total, stretched between 5 nights. |
I prefer to get around 8 when I can, and usually do on weekends. But on weekdays, I generally end up with about 5-6.
|
By the time I get home from work, get something to eat and unwind a bit it is already starting to get late so I average 6-7 hours a night; and then get up and start it all over again...
|
There was a question about native language in dreams. I spent a long time in Europe and evertually my dreams were in German. My German sucks, but being in the country for such a long time, it happens. There is a very strong connection between memories and language development, which should have an impact on dreams.
As for sleeping, I think I average about the 6.5 hours, however I can't keep a regular schedule. College was a real party, so sleeping regular was never happening. First real job, less than 2 years out of college, was a nightshift. Did that for over 2 years, and then being in a foreign country for over 5 with all the excitement kept sleep away pretty well. I can sleep, I just can't seem to hold a normal schedule. I have been told that's very bad. I tend to agree. midnight to 7 on monday, 9pm to 5am tuesday, 10pm to 9am wednesday and thursday, less than two hours friday... yeah, and i think it'll be worse once the broadband is installed........ |
All around the week, I generally get about 6-8 hours of sleep. I marked myself for the 6/7 choice.
|
I completely blame TFP for keeping me up 'till 2AM on a regular basis. Staring at the computer screen that long and then going to sleep, then waking up the next morning with my eyes really dry and feeling like all the iron in my body was stripped clearn out of my system while I was asleep. Isn't it great to be an insomniac? :)
|
i sleep about 6/7 hours a night. i find i cant get to sleep before 12 for some reason. when i studied (dont anymore, decided it wasnt for me) i would go with 3-4 for nights on end. after reading what lordjeebus said about more sleep gives you better memory retention i im thinking i should start sleeping more so i have a better memory.
|
With everything that has been going on I have been getting to sleep at 3 4 in the morning waking up atleast once in the middle of the night for about an hour. Then when my alarm goes off at 20 after 7 I have to get my son ready to go to school. I come home after taking him to the bus at about 20 after 8 and go back to sleep for an hour or 2. So all told I am getting about 4 to 5 hours of broken sleep a night.
|
4 1/2 to 5 hours a night if i want to feel decent. any more or less and i feel like crap all day
|
Usually get 4-5, but I take a nap during lunch hour. Keeps me awake for the second half of the day.
|
4 to 6 hours on school days. Seems to work fine, though in weekends I've been known to sleep for twelve hours straight so I guess maybe I've got some catching up to do.
|
between 12 and 14 hours a day. damn antidepressants.
|

During the week, when I need sleep the most, I can't ever get to sleep. But on the weekends, I usually stay up every night until 4-6 a.m. and then I sleep till about 4ish the next evening! My body clock is severely messed up! |
I get about 8 but god do I want more I am always tired. Some times I wish I could just hibernate.
|
6 - 8 hours is just right...
Any more and it leaves me groggy, Less and it leaves me grouchy |
I always get 8 hours of sleep. My biggest piece of advice to anyone who's sleep deprived is not change your sleeping schedule on the weekends. My roomates think I'm weird because of this, but on the only one who's not tired (and doesn't need coffee) on monday morning.
|
I can go to sleep at any time you want me to and wake up at any time you want me to. The question is how happy will I be if I have to wake up early.
|
I like to sleep. If no alarm is set I can sleep from 10-12 hours a night. If I get less sleep I tend to be tired and may nap for a couple hours.
|
I voted as a 6/7 hour guy... However that would be an average. I work nights and trying to sleep during the day is one of the hardest things. I generally will get anywhere from 3-5 hours during the day and then take an nap on my lunch hour at work. That seems to keep me going during the week. Then when the weekend comes I'll sleep at night with my wife and will get a full 8 hours.
|
I get about 5 to 6 on week days and about 9 hours on the weekend not to bad.
|
I usually get 6 hours of sleep. But lately, I've been getting none.
|
I usually get between 5-7 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I plan on sleeping 11-6, but it always ends up being 12:30-6 or a little later.
|
sleep? what is that,
insomina sucks... some nights i get 6-8 some i get none at all. |
I usually can't sleep for more than 8-9 hours, but try to get at least 7-7.5 per night.
One trick I've picked up from my 7-months-pregnant wife is that if you find yourself regretting the early arrival of 6:30 AM (because you have to get up and go to work), you should get up with her in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom (or whatever, just wake up a little). Then, you actively realize how many more hours of sleep you have. Works wonders for my mood at 0630. |
I generally am happy with a 7 hour sleep. If I sleep less than 5-6, I'm a zombie, but if I sleep more than 9, it can trigger a migraine, don't ask me why as I've no idea.
So I try to get about seven hours... |
Normally during the week I get 4-5 hours a night. On the weekend I can get more if the child lets me.
I think in general I am just sleep deprived. I have never been able to nap. Although I think that there might be a genetic link to sleeping. My father only sleeps about 4 hours a night. And has since I can remeber. Anybody else notice this? On another note. I know they say everyone dreams but if I do I never remeber them. My wife says I sleep like the dead. I never move and never wake up. |
I used to pride myself in how little sleep I needed to keep functioning. Now I start getting a headache and start to whine at about 9 pm.
One of the things that annoys me about myself how I cant sleep in on the weekend anymore. Even after a night of boozing, I am still wide awake at 8 am. I need to work a night shift or something so I'm not so boring anymore. |
Depends, when I'm working I frequently get around 4 hours, days off though it's more like 10 to make up for it.
|
i sleep A LOT on days i dont have to go to class in the morning, but those other days i only get 3 - 4
|
Wow, I usually get about 7 hours lately (I used to get more) and it's starting to become hard to get up in the morning.. I really feel for some of you guys..
|
I love sleeping and try to get as much as possible.
I get up early but i go to bed at 11 or so... |
4-5 hours a day. No need for more.
|
Back in university, I'd be able to manage on 3-4 hours a night during exams (and even pass!!) Mind you, by the end of the two weeks or so, I'd be so burnt out, it made for the EASIEST buzz when we went out drinking to celebrate!!
As for now, I still keep down to 5-6 hours during the week, and maybe 7-8 on the weekends, |
It seems I am with the majority. I try to get at least 6-7 a night, occasionally it's less, sometimes more.
|
I actually needed a 5/6 category.
Since i get anywhere from 5 to, well, 6. :) I voted 4/5 since when you only 5.5 hours of sleep you dont feel liek you got no 6 from rounding upwards. |
I've started a workout routine just recently, so now I'm trying to get at least 8 hours of sleep in a night for muscle repair. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to get upwards of 9 or more a night, anyway.
Now when the semester gets closer to the end... |
I voted 8-9, but on weekends when i have nothing goin on it is definitely 10+. I love those days when i can get as much sleep as i want, but i also like the days where i wake up and have a full day ahead of me.
|
I usually get about around 5 to 6 hours if I've had a non busy day :P
|
Boy I do much better if I get a good solid 8 but I'm a bit of an addict to the David Letterman show. Ridiculous I know. I think I'll have to take the TV out of the bedroom.
|
Interesting subject cause I always wanted to talk about this since I get 3 -4 hours of sleep only per day . No weekends or weekdays are different . Is this normal ?
|
around 6 hours weekdays, 9 hours weekends.
I didn't go to bed last night. |
I get about 6 to 7 hours of sleep a night, but I definitely feel it's not enough for me though.
Even though I'm only 22 years old and technically still in my prime, I find myself being constantly fatigued and in need of sleep because I'm so busy with school (17-credit course load; 11 hours of lab a week). Furthermore, I have some deadbeat downstairs neighbors who never go to class and play loud music all night until the wee hours of the morning, so I can't get my necessary 6 hours. |
3 if I'm lucky. Between practice, homework, etc, I rarely get to bed before 3, and as a result of some health conditions I have a lot of difficulty falling asleep before 4 or 5, if at all.
|
I always get eight hours, right on the nose.
One of the beauties of working from home is that I never have to use an alarm clock..but I find myself waking up at about 6:30am everyday anyway. |
Last night I slept for about an hour. I'm surprised that I actually stayed awake throughout the day.
|
seriously.. fuck school.. i hate getting up early. atleast its almost over. hehe
