Wow, am I out of shape! You?
I just really realized this. Im still my skinny self, but I am totaly out of shape.
Couple things happened to wake me up to this fact. 1. My 300 lb friend just told me he got done running a mile today, and was trying to better himself. In the conversation, I mentioned that once he was in shape, he was going to feel great. Then today, I ran up a couple flights of stairs at school. I was winded, and my legs hurt, and I was disgusted with myself. I used to play soccer, and after I graduated High School, I pretty much decided that that was the last time I was ever going to play. Now I wish I was still playing, because I would be in shape, and I would feel great. anyone else let themselves get out of shape without realizing it? |
ick....i am skinny, and i look like i am in great shape. Good definition and tone, not much fat....but i am in horrible shape. Dont know if i could finish the mile. I used to play dodgeball every friday night last summer, and i didn't ever really go this summer. Well, just a few weeks ago i went down there. Woke up the next morning and everything hurt. Its a really sad feeling to know you are in horrible shape. Apparently not bad enough to make me do anything about it though.

OH yeah - I notice a difference from 10 years ago. I used to be able to lift two toddlers, one in each arm, without trouble but now? NO way. Also after pregnancy I noticed a distinct lack of strength in my legs. I'm not sure why it changed so drastically in only about a year but I really noticed that was different.
I sometimes do the 10 minutes Tae Bo workout. With kids constantly around I don't have time for much more but when I do it regularly I really do notice more energy and strength. I'm healthy and not overweight at all but definately not as toned. |
Yeah I was that way until recently, even though I'm pretty skinny. I'm not all that in shape yet but I'm getting better all the time. When I first started working out, I'd hop on an elliptical machine and I felt like I was gonna die after 3 minutes. My legs, ass, and lower back all felt like they were on fire and I could barely walk after 10-15 mins. It was embarrassing seeing women twice my age on those things for like an hour at a time and barely breaking a sweat. Only took 3 or 4 weeks (3x/week) before I could do it for 30+ minutes easily without getting too worn out.
Diet is important, too. I used to live off of TV dinners and junk food. Thanks to my high metabolism I never got fat, but it certainly didn't make me healthy. Now if I eat something like that, it makes me feel nauseous. |
I was very out of shape at the end of high school. I had a full time job, school, and a great relationship so I had no time to go the the gym or work out. Then I signed up for the army and realized it was time to get in shape before I had to leave a few months later. I went to they gym and tried to run a mile and almost died it was so hard. But I kept at it and after basic training I was in the best shape of my life. I've stayed in pretty much the same shape since and now, two years in, I've been hitting the weights pretty hard trying to better myself.
My point is that it sucked trying to get into shape again, but it's awesome when you get back in it. I suggest you all try to do something to help get back in shape, if not for any reason but to feel better about yourselves. |
Being a father, working 2 jobs and no/little activity have finally caught up with me. I've put about 10 pounds on since the first of the year. It's not that it's a bad thing, but I feel totally crappy. My wife and I just started the Body for Life book, eating/exercising. It's a 12 week program, and we're 1 week into it. I can't wait to see the results, and I won't let this happen again.

Around 9 months ago I was 225lbs when my ex cheated and left me. Thanks to some help on the forum back then, I've been working at it, with ups and down.s I hit 190... then went up to 205, now I'm back down to 200. But I think the key is to just keep trying. I've been 170 before, years ago but I still had a belly. So this time around I'm weight training. I'de rather be a 185lb fit person than a lanky tall 160lber.

I know what you mean about playing soccer. I played in high school and a little after (some college and then competitive mens' leagues). I stopped playing to start coaching, then everything when to the crapper. The less I played the worse I got, even though I was around it most of the year, standing on the sideline is totally different. Got to the point where my players were making fun of me. Pretty sad point in my life...
