Anyone know about the legal aspects of Internet E-mail and privacy?
I have a friend who is concerned about the privacy of her e-mail. After her divorce a few months ago she changed the password on her personal e-mail account. Recently she has been locked out of the account with a message saying someone else was already accessing it. She believes it is quite possible her ex-husband guessed her e-mail password and has been reading her private messages. Does anyone know if this is illegal? She has already changed her password and notified the E-mail provider of the problem. If she wanted to take him to court, would she have any legal justification? I know employers can look at anything they want to, but what is legal regarding the privacy of someone's personal E-mail messages?

Yes, it's illegal. No, she won't win in court. Why? She has to prove it. Kinda hard to do.
What she SHOULD do is quit using passwords that other people can guess ;) |
