Clean your keyboard?
Recent studies have shown that keyboards are really unhygenic places. How dirty is your keyboard?
|
Clean... I guess.... not too bad. S'ok .... I blow it out about once a month.
|
Mine's pretty clean. I eat at my desk frequently, so I blow it out every few days and clean off the surface once every couple of weeks. I wash my hands frequently, and I'm the only one who uses is, so I'm pretty sure it's no more disease-ridden than any other surface in my office.

Heh -- the keys are black, so it's hard to tell. Thank God.

mine's real dirty. i took out the keys and cleaned it up about 6 months ago. i'll need to do it again soon.
|
I try to keep it clean but Im one hairy bastard so it is heaps hard when you constantly have hair in between the keys
|
Mine at work is really gross. I blasted some air through it the other day but I'd really love to take the keys out and clean it properly. But then I couldn't do any work. Not like I do any now!
|
same as The_Dude, but I almost last a row of keys somewhere....
Oh well.. quat sanitizer keeps it clean between blowings. |
Mine's pretty clean. At least all the dirt on it comes directly from me, and I give it the basic wipe every month or so.
What lurks underneath and between the keys tho, I dont know. Or want to. |
I eat at my desk but not over the keyboard. I have a can of CO2 that i use at least once a week. I don't like having a dirty keyboard... I think my biggest problem is cat hair... grr >=(

Does any keyboard company actually condone removing the keys to clean underneathe them? If so they should really make a tool for doing it, I hate having to wedge a coin or writing implement underneathe the key and then have the key go flying across the room. Its also really annoying to reattach the space bar and shift keys.

Funny you should mention it...
I just had to pitch a keyboard because I spilled applejuice in it. So for fun, I pried up some keys to look at the gunk in between them. EW!!!! I'm a fairly clean person with good hygiene, so I was apalled that I was using so dirty an insturment for a good two hours every day. I must stop eating at my computer. Or at the very least, stop trying to type and eat at the same time. |
I clean mine with my tongue once a week, no exceptions.
|
i clean it all the time.
i like to wash my hands a lot as well, so my keyboard doesn´t get all that dirty, but still... it needs regular cleaning. |
I think I clean mine about once every 3 years or so. Replace them about once every 6 years, so far. They stay in pretty good shape. I just got a brand new IBM RapidResponse. Fucking awesome keyboard! Beats the crap out of the MS and Dell keyboards.
|
mine usually gets dirty quick with all the people hta come by and use it i usually pop off all of the keys at least once a wek to keep it clean
|
Well I just shake mine upside down and hit it so all the bread crumbs fall out...and the skin cells. I blow it out with Canned air also occasionally. The worst was my friends house who has 2 cats. Friggin hair balls were under the keys.
|
I eat at my computer, often...but I hate that greasy feeling.
So I take a bottle of 401 to it every once in awhile. The one at work I spray with Lysol to, just to make sure. |
I eat once in a while. Typically its a sandwhich of sorts...thus the bread crumbs. I am sloppy too. I've had far to many close calls of tons of spaghettti slopping int he keyboard etc.
|
Here's a tip everyone- Dont spill Tea tree Oil on your keyboard. Trust me.
|
Yeah I've seen some pretty nasty ones when I used to work help desk/tech support for a company it got to the point where I wouldn't even work on a PC until I wiped it down.
Needless to say I keep mine pretty clean! |
