Lot of hair falling out without balding?
Okay, that was a strange thread title but I'm serious! I have relatively long hair and I collect it in the shower (using a hair net). For curiosity (I'm really nerdy), I've been collecting it to see how much hair I'm shedding and I'm shocked at it's mass. I'm losing a lot of hair. However, I've been doing this for quite some time and I'm still no where close to balding. So, it would appear to be growing back (the fuzz around my head seems to support that). Fine, but is it normal to be shedding so much hair? Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know what's going on?
Thank you... |
I wasn't going to post this.. but I've got a similar problem. I don't really have long hair, but I notice that if I ruffle my hands through my hair, I can get a lot to fall out.. and when I dry off my hair in the shower with my towel, and get out, I notice hairs on the bottom of the shower.
I just figure I'm gonna be bald in a few years, even though I don't have so much as a receding hair line. |
Ha... I have the exact same problem too.
My hair is to my nose and I've always had it at least to my ears. It used to be blonde, but I died it black. Ever since I have noticed I'm losing a lot of hair. My guess is either the hair dye damaged it or I can just notice it better now. Try looking at the hairs and seeing if they have roots on an end or if they are shorter than the rest of your hair, because if so then that means it's breaking in the middles. I use a shampoo for this, Tresemme Total Strength Replenishing Shampoo, because mine does break. Thing is I haven't noticed any improvement. I'm starting to think that it's just more noticable now that it's dark, and is rather normal. I really started worring about it at first though. I imagined that after I dye my hair and love it I discover the dye damages it and I go bald! LOL. |
I have the same problem.
Except,...i'm bald. Well, I shave my head, but I'm a pretty hairy person. I've got pretty hairy arms and legs and a hairy chest, but I find hair in the shower all of the time. It doesn;t really bother me though since I don't have anything on my head to worry about losing. |
I was also having this problem when my hair was long. My hairdresser told me that we all lose a lot of hair but when it's long, it's more noticable. I mean, you'll see a long hair in the shower easier than a short one, right?

This happens to my girlfriend.... she has shoulder length hair.. I joke about how much hair she sheds.
Don't worry about it, it is perfectly normal for long hair to shed like that. p.s. Yay someone else from K-W!!!! |
Exactly. My hair was long about a year ago, and I was scared that I was losing tons of hair, but now that it's moderately short again it seems like the problem disappears.
But then again, I have developed a pretty nasty receding hairline in the past few years :/ |
Normal hair loss is 50 - 100 hairs per day.
Your results may vary. |
I have always heard about 80 per day is average. I have the same problem though it seems more pronounced than it used to be and my hair has gotten shorter. I really notice it when I am putting my product in my hair in the morning, my hands are coated with loose hairs. My mom on my Dad's side was a baldy so I imagin that I am heading that way... Such is life
