Does your partner *KICK* in bed?
In lurkette and my household, one of us (I shan't name names) has the dreaded Jimmy Legs. This person's legs sort of... twitch... or, maybe "shift" is a better word.... His-or-her knees bend and his-or-her ankles flex, s/he holds that for a couple seconds, and then relaxes. Sometimes this is a big motion, and sometimes you hardly notice it.
Here's the "kicker". This happens every eight to ten seconds, all night long. The other night it got so out-of-hand that this person's spouse kicked him-or-her out of bed. The spouse felt bad about it, but there it was. Who else has a partner with the nocturnal "happy feet"? What do you do about it? |
I "know" somebody who doesn't have the leg issue, that person has a spouse that has a whole body issue. I've "heard" that this spouse has a tendency to turn so much in bed that it reminds him of a chicken on a rotisserie. At one point this actually led the stationary spouse to have a dream where he ended up "allegedly" throwing a couple of solid rights to the head of his spouse. That weekend the couple bought a king sized bed. All has been well in "that" household since then.
My advice, get a larger bed, or start slipping the spouse who is chasing rabbits in her or his dreams a nice little valium before bed. |
Maybe it's time to tie Lurkette's feet together or maybe tape them to the bed?
I mean, maybe it's time to tie his-or-her feet together and maybe tape them to the bed? Good advice from Bones. What size is your bed? I used to bug Quadrette a lot (I'm a spooner) in our full-size bed. We just got a queen and it happens a lot less often. (although I'm sure I will eventually go back to old habits.) The other idea I have is that maybe you can buy one of those full-length "body pillows" that will essentially create a soft barrier between the two of you. My last idea involves tar and feathers, but maybe we should talk privately about it. |

There is a medical condition known as "restless leg syndrome"; just googled, there a foundation for it. Have lurkette (or whoever else you are sleeping with ;) ) check out the board and see if it applies to her. There's medication available.

Yeah, we're in a full-size bed. We've talked about upgrading, but we sort of don't wanna.
This didn't really get to be much of an issue until this year. It's always been going on a little, but this year it really got a lot worse--to the point that there are some nights that neither of us sleep much. |
At least I don't snore. My brother-in-law snores like a fucking buzzsaw. Count yourself lucky, buster ;)
And it is I...I who have the Jimmylegs. I'll admit it. Ha! |
:) skogafoss stays on her side of the bed :)

Had something of this problem with my wife for a number of years, though not every night and not all night. In her youth she studied ballet for a number of years, and some nights she would dream she was dancing. Turned out those were the nights she kept pointing and unpointing her feet. Eventually, it stopped.
Does Lurkette have a classic/modern dance background? Ya never know. |
whats so bad about spooning that you'd have to upgrade beds?

Quadrette and I tried to think about this further last night, but other than the larger bed and the body pillow, couldn't come up with anything. Unless you want to invest in one of those electric fence thingies for your half of the bed. |
Yes, restless leg syndrome could be the culprit. My wife had it for a short time till she started taking iron supplements.
|
I guess my theory was considered to be without merit?
|
In a related topic, is it called snoring if your sleeping partner makes funny noises when releasing the air from his mouth? Ryan sleeps silently for a couple of hours, then he starts sounding like a balloon releasing air. It scares the hell out of me. I think I will get a tape recorder just to prove to him that I am not making it up.

My wife sleeps on her back and opens and shuts her legs all ... night ... long
Any attempt to cure it results in me being savagely attacked by a fast-asleep lady who denies everything in the morning. Ive given up complaining and just got used to it |

In some ways the description of RLS resembles lurkette's behavior, and in some ways not. It's funny. I explored that site pretty thoroughly, and found that there really isn't much to be done to treat RLS. There are some suggestions for ameilorating it, though, and we might very well take a look at those. If there was a pill you could take that would stop it, that'd be one thing. The advice on that site, though, was stuff like "Eat well-balanced meals and take vitamin supplements." Not bad advice for anybody, of course, but the link with what lurkette's doing isn't totally clear, I don't think. |

Oo~Your talking to Ms. Bruce Lee here.. I kick and wail my arms around all the time. Thats one of the reasons why my cat wont sleep with me in bed anymore. When I sleep with my bf he says he doesnt feel anything-which is always a good thing to find yourself a real heavy sleeper! I ended up kneeing him in the gnads once or twice while sleeping. OUCH! Im sorry hunny! My poor baby. :(
|
sorry I cant help, I can sleep in a twin with my g/f. Sometimes we roll around, but when we sleep together we never move at all, we just spoon like fine cutlery :D
|
Used to be that way with us too. All through college we'd sleep together in a twin at least once or twice a week. Never any trouble.
|
its pretty common that as people age they start sleeping less soundly. It may be that she used to a little and you just slept through it.
I have also heard that vitamin deficiencies, particularly B or Iron can do it. Maybe she should try some Iron supplements. I have also heard that exercise can help. I know this is all "try clean living" advice but thats more or less what I know. Oh, also if she is taking coke, speed, crack, or any of the prescription variants (Ritalin, Adderal, ect) that might be doing it. |

She doesn't kick but I sure do. I'm violent when I sleep.

i am a bed and blanket hog
:) i like to spread out....a LOT |
Seems like the only time i sleep with people is when im drunk, hence, passed out, so i never notice either way...
|
My wife tends to migrate to my side of the bed. We've got a king size bed, and almost every night, I end up with about 1-2 feet to myself...
