I have many friends who are police officers in canada, one is the highest ranking female in the province, heading up 911 in the winnipeg office.
They are all still around, so I can only assume its pretty safe. There's always a couple of crazies though, even in the motherland. Go for it! Its not incredibly easy to get in, but it is good work, and my friends really enjoy their jobs. |

depends whether you join RCMP or local police I suppose. The law here is more of a blunt spear in many regards compared to the USA. However it's also safer being a law enforcement official due to the fact so many less people have access to guns and it's harder to get ahold of guns(usually only 'serious' criminals have guns)

It really is not that hard to get a gun, You can get anything you want really...If you have the money.
There is actually criminals in the Toronto area who rent out guns to other criminals for about 250 an hour. A guy I grew up with and played hockey with is now a cop, I don't talk with him anymore..He is a spoiled little shit, That needs to stop sucking on mommy's tits. Canada is alot more peacefull than the states, A big reason for that is the difference in population. Being a cop anywhere still has it's risks...There has been alot of cops that have been killed by criminals here. I would never want to be a cop, They are not very appreciated by alot of people. I don't dislike them, but I also don't like them either.

Also depending on what part of Canada it is in question the job can be frustrating, eg. BC would be fairly relaxed with the rules and jerks get nothing but a slap on the wrist while in Alberta they'll throw anyone in jail for anything.
