Sweet! Someone took my car!
 

Walked out to start my first week of work today and lo and behold, someone took my car. This car was a beat up 86 olds. I can't for the life of me understand why they took it. I need this car for my job... not just to get their but to do my job. They don't pay me enough to buy a new one. These people have not only taken something of value to me, but they have taken my lively hood! I can't see how the car has value to anyone else, to me, it held a lot of memories. And of couse, seening as my car was beat up and no one would ever take it, I didn't have coverage for theft.

This used to be such a nice place to live.

D'oh. This'll teach you not to have theft coverage. :( It's a sucky situation and, despite that "theft coverage" comment, I feel for you.

As for the reason? Older cars are easier to steal, having less anti-theft devices. They're cheaper to sell stolen, and cheaper than buying a "new" car. I could probably buy seven stolen 80s models for what it costs to get a newer vehicle.

Get the coverage next time. :(

At least I don't have to worry about what on it isn't going to pass safty inspection; I was going to do that tomorrow.

Man, I'm sorry. Maybe it'll turn up somewhere in still-working condition. Hoping for you.

Even still though, that really does bite the big one. What are you going to do?

Don't know, the place I work now doesn't pay me enough to get a new car. I also need a car to do my job. I think I will quit and try to go back to my crappier better paying job.

How about carpooling? People at your work will be sympathetic and you might be able to find someone who lives near you.

i feel for you. its a really bad situation.

hopefully they won´t trash it and burn it like they usually do here.

i know one guy who had his beat up old car stolen. it was gone for about a fortnight, but out of the blue, the local police called and told him that they´d found it sitting outside their station. he just caught the bus over there and bingo, he had his car back.

but hows that for cheeky car thieves. leaving outside a police station.

i don´t know what the area you are in is like, but you could always get a bike and start riding to work??

I think the "sweet" part confused me. But I am sorry to hear about your car though. :(

I would love job where I could bike to work, but I need my car to do my job. I worked (I had to quit) with the mentally ill. I helped take them from place to place (job interviews, family gatherings etc..). The job didn't pay me enough to get a new (used, whatever) car.

That's what I thought too. I know a few people who were really happy that their car got stolen because they wanted to get rid of it anyway, and this way, they got some compensation from the insurance company.

Have you you guys ever heard of sarcasm? He obviously is not happy about his car being stolen, it's like someone saying Yes I get to do jury duty.

Out of the 6 people I live with, they have hit 3 of the cars. Mine was the only one they took.
I finally got to talk to a police officer, he told me Oldsmobiles don't get stripped as often and their is a pretty high rate of recovery. I think he was just trying to be nice.

I remember having my car broken into when I was in college. They stole a CD player I'd installed less than a month before.

I was so mad I could hardly contain myself. The feeling up helplessness was extremely frustrating.

Even if your thief is caught, he or she will be back on the street in 24 hours.

Is that by any chance a reference to the motion picture, "Dude Where is My Car?" I ended up watching it like 5 times when it was on Cable. That and "Road Trip." Excellent movies.

Sorry, no movie reference. Just the first thing that popped through my head when I realized my car wasn't parked anywhere on my block.

I hope I didn't sound insensitive by asking entirely unrelated question. I really feel for you and wish you the best. I hope you get the car back.

I have a couple of stolen car stories to share. My friend in high school lived in a house couple of blocks away from the highway ramp. This was Queens, New York City, so it's pretty high density. His dad had a Honda Accord, about 5 years old. The car was parked in front of the house, usually. And it was stolen one night. So the insurance paperwork is done and he got a brand spanking new Accord to replace it. And this time he parked in the driveway. Three days later the car was stolen again.

Another one. One morning, my uncle stepped out of his car in front of the post office to deposit some letters into the mailbox. I got out of the car also, I don't know why. Some dude simply ran upto the car, jumped in and drove away. Never saw the car again.

Well, the local police found my car at an abandoned house. It looks like some kids took it for a job ride till the gas ran out and dumped it. In total, it looks like one broken window, 2 HUGE dents on either side of the car, 1 messed up steering column. We called a tow truck out to the house to haul it away and the tow guy knew how to hot wire it, so he taught the cop and I. But I still had to pay for the tow truck, so I had to pay 110 dollars to learn how. But seeing that is how I am going to be starting my car for a while, it was probably for the best.

Not sure what I am going to do with it now. A lot of the damage I can just let go, but some of it is going to need fixing before it is street legal again.

Glad you got the car back. You really need to move to a small town in Wis. I go to the grocery store and often see a car minus any passengers parked in the parking lot and running.
My parents never lock their house or car and they've lived here for 17 years. The only troubles we ever had was a neighbor who insisted on giving us her (not very well made) homemade wine and was able to leave it in our house while we were gone and a neighbor girl who was 4 who kept coming over to our house when we were gone to watch TV. lol

Crime in my town is nearly nil. I mean we had a grass fire on a farm outside of town about 3 weeks ago. We drove by to see what was going on and there were about 25 cars of people parked along the road watching. Something as small as that is "entertainment" here. Sure nothing ever happens but nothing gets stolen.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I'm glad to hear you got your car back.

That was always a fear of mine back when my truck was parked somewhere without a 12 foot barbedwire fence and a padlock.

And now that I'm at college, I always keep my fingers crossed everytime I wander into the parking lot. I've been lucky so far.

Where do you live? I'll bring my car by, I *WANT* someone to steal my car. To much money for a car when I can barely afford to pay my bills anymore :-/

no way you could justify having theft coverage on a car that old....


for the extra money he spends every year on theft he could buy a new "used" car
