Which: Salaried Versus Getting Paid Every Week?

I personally prefer to get paid every week and for overtime. I don't like getting paid every two weeks or imagine getting paid once a month. Which do you prefer? Is there any benefits to being salaried?

Monthly. Budgeting is good for you, and it's easy not to do it with a weekly cash bolus. It's a ticket to never getting ahead.

Getting paid every two weeks is pretty much the corporate American way these days, once you get above low-level jobs. And many civil service jobs pay monthly.

A two-week pay period is not difficult to budget, really. I've never minded it at all. Some people have trouble with the one-month pay periods; you need to be a good budgeter or you'll be short at the end of the month.

There is no particular benefit for salaried work over hourly work. In fact, if your employer is trying to run "lean and mean," salaried workers are generally working more than the standard 40 hours per week without extra pay -- or anything else, these days, except the ability to keep their job through the next round of layoffs.

Yeah,

Holy Bolus,

Live like a King for three weeks then budget.

Sorry Mate.(Couldn't resist that one).

Seriously, the concept of weekly pay is something that I don't comprehend anymore and for me it is half the year at 30 hours per week and 50 the rest.

Swings and roundabouts.

I don't focus on getting paid.
It's not all it's cracked up to be.

I mean you pay the bills and have some money in your pocket - big deal.

I think work is about other things besides the economic necessities. I focus on those.

weekly with overtime vs. salary....

easy...

weekly

sick you don't get paid, (usually) sick during the week? then you don't get overtime... holidays? usually don't get paid. total pay? minimal, capped at most levels... unless you are freelance or consultant, and then you are working for a corporation anyways...MTV has permant freelancers... some work for $125/day and if they work 20 hours a day.... well it sucks, they get sick, they worry about paying their bills.

salary....
get sick? so what.
go on vacation? so what.

work overtime? so what.. so long as your overtime isn't ALL the time.

if it is.... BONUS ...

some people get bonuses yearly ... 5%-25% of salary.... it's a very nice unexpected bump. all for the extras that you do ... like overtime. Thank you MTV for my home theater system I got that with a bonus 6 years ago. And it still... makes people pause when they see it.

Yeah, salary all the way.

As long as you keep your OT under control. Hourly pay is usually for the lower level jobs.

I wish I could look at my job this way.

Gotta agree with ARTelevision on all points. Having said that, I like another option. Working in the tip industry getting paid every day. But definite downfalls to that in ART's points.

Pay is not my focus; but it is necessary to survive. I get paid once a month, and budgeting is difficult. My ex got paid every other week and I miss it. Definitely prefer salary over hourly -- it is much easier to budget.

Salaried status usually benefits the employer, especially if you're in a high-pressure job that requires lots of overtime.

Hourly is nice because anything over 40 hours a week is usually time and half. Accouting for your time is usually more intense however because if they can get away with paying you 38 hours instead of 50, they are all for it.

I had the worst of both worlds at my last job - I was salaried, but I had to account for what I did during every hour of work. I was expected to work 50+ hours a week (I didn't often) because according to my boss at the time, that was the average amount of hours salaried employees work.

My new job - still salaried but no expectations of work hours. Take the amount of time needed to get the job done. If it's a 10 hour day, if it's a 4 hour day, it's all the same. Get your crap done and it's all good.

I have had it both ways, and I have never had problems managing money. If I had it my way I would go with weekly paychecks, becuase it just felt like you had more money.

anything is better than salary. i worked a salary job for about 2 years and was constantly getting taken advantage of b/c they knew they owned my ass (not in a jailhouse way.. but close). look at it like this: w/ a pay check.. you get overtime, with salary you get overtime w/ no extra pay.

my job (network engineer) used to be salaried but then they descided that in my state (alaska) that all IT people should be hourly. so i went from salary to hourly which is basically breaking my department because after all this virus stuff that just recently hit i've been clocking MAD overtime. so now the departments basically broke and they want to make me salaried again but they can't LOL. the only reason why that happens is because my boss is supposed to be doing what i do on a daily basis but he can't for some reason so IF he could actually do his job he is payed salary so the department wouldnt' be broke.

Yup! But at least I get random bonuses every once in awhile that the salaried (and more important) people don't. Of course they make at least 3x as much as me, but who's countin...

(Besides me).

Also, I don't get paid weekly, but bi-weekly.
