Where (if anywhere) did you go in the summer?

Okay, given that the summer vacation is over for most students, and that summer is a very popular time for vacations, I thought I'd ask about where y'all went during the summer.

Personally, I went with my mom, brother, and grandmother to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. We had an awesome time. The beach was beautiful (we thought the travel guide pics of the beach were heavily retouched, but we were dead wrong. it looked exactly like it did in the pictures). Night time entertainment was great, as was the food and service (note - I stayed on a resort, so I didn't need to worry about nasty worms, Montezuma's revenge, etc).

I would definitely go there again.

Flippy, where'd you stay on the Mayan Riviera? Yoshi and I are headed there in a little over a week to stay at the Bahia Principe resort.

That said, we also went to Amsterdam - but the highlight of that trip is well covered in another thread. :)

I've been to Frankfurt, Munich, and Amsterdam in the last few months. Will be going back to Munich in October - but too late for Octoberfest! How did I screw that one up?

San Francisco, Memphis, and Pensacola, Florida.

We stayed at the Allure resort, which is a little further down the road from the one you stayed at. We had some people on our shuttle back to the airport that stayed at the Bahia Principe, and they said they loved it there. Enjoy your trip! :)

I spent 2 weeks hunting for moose up in Northern British Columbia. I saw deer, elk, black bear, grizzly bear, wolves, foxes, and of course, a big bull moose:thumbsup:

I went to Alberta, Canada over the 4th of July weekend. Had a fantastic time.

Sigh...

June: BRU and onto Brugges
July: IST and on to Bosphorous
Aug: NAS and on to Paradise Island
Aug: Santiago de Chile
Aug: BCN and on to Costa Brava

All in all a decent summer I'd say - But then I'm a FF nut :)

I went to Detroit for the blackout. We didn't plan on it, and it cut our vacation short. It is too bad, because we were supposed to see the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise, a 30,000 car cruise in Detroit. The biggest one day car show in the U.S.

I went to Sturgis, SD for the motercycle rally, and since its in the same state I dont know if you'd call it a vacation. It was really cool though, seeing all those bikes and Jesse James was even there. :)

Summer? What is this summer of which you speak?

I did spend some of Winter in New Caledonia , which I highly recommend, although it's probably a little less convenient trip for most TFPers.

I went to New York...I go there quite often, so it wsn't exactly new. I love it there...I discover something everytime I go. :)

The wife and I went down to Daytona for the Dale Earnhardt tribute concert. We won an all expenses paid trip there. It was pretty cool. The week after that, our family went to North Carolina for a week. Should have done more though.

El Salvador for 8 days with my wife and kids to visit her family.

Nice place, even though I am taller than most of the people there. (and a lot fairer complexion)

dy156 10-16-2003 08:12 AM

New Orleans and Oklahoma - one was more fun than the other!

I quit my job and went to Bellingham Washington for 6 weeks. It was the most fun I have ever had in my life.

I learned the joy of showering with other people.

It also made me decide that Washington counts money made by speeding tickets under tourism.

amonkie 10-20-2003 10:19 PM

Spent a month visiting Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam and a week in Chapel Hill NC. just FYI, don't tell the people there you didn't know that Michael Jordan went to UNC- They will never let you live it down!

I spent two weeks with my bro in San Francisco. Beautiful city, beautiful weather (most of the time), but I'm not too fond of the people...

I was able to go to Lake Havasu twice and to Pheonix twice. Unfortunately one of the trips to Pheonix was for a funeral. But i did get a new car out of it... (Trying to see the glass as half full).

shileno 11-16-2003 09:57 PM

went to japan and korea...it was awesome..

UTRA 11-22-2003 10:05 PM

I studied in England for the summer and made it to Prague, Madrid, and Dublin. Prague is the most incredible city I have ever been to. You should really check it out if you ever get the chance. Everything is cheap, the girls are gorgeous, and the nightlife is outstanding.
