Hair Removal

Is there anything that permanently removes hair besides laser hair removal? I want to get rid of my chest and stomach hair. I heard if I shaved it it would come back worse. I don't know if thats true or not. Thanks

Why don't you want to get laser done? I just did it and it works great....a bit of instantaneous pain, but worth it since it lasts for life.

How much is the laser treatment? I wouldn't mind having my arms lasered :). SofakingA, try waxing. Waxing weakens the hair folical and makes it grow in thinner. The more you do it eventually the follical will die and no longer grow hair. Don't use a razor. After shaving with a razor the hair grows in coarse. It is only a myth that it grows in more, totally not true. If that was the case, balding people would just shave their heads :p.

I am in the proccess of having my entire back lasered. It's 5 treatments, for $270 each, at an upfront cost of $1350. Arms would probably be considerably less, being as there is a lore more area on your back than arms!

I've had one treatment done already, and it was rather pain free. The lady told me most of the guys she did couldn't handle it and either needed a break, or wanted to reschedule their appointment so that they could use a topical cream to stop any pain, but I just layed there the whole time and let her go at it. It felt kind of like someone thwacking you with a rubber band, followed with extremely cold air!

The lady also asked if I was interested in getting my chest done.. I told her no because I don't mind shaving it. She said it's probably a good idea because the chest and stomach are two of the most sensitive areas to do... so if you do it, I highly suggest using a topical cream!!! I can't see having it hurt to have your ams done tho.

Ouch, that is more then I expected but I guess for somebody in dire need, that isnt a huge amount. I barely grow hair on my arms as it is, I am just not a fan of body hair and when I keep it waxed it shows my arm definition a lot better.

The hair appears to grow back thicker when you shave it because you see the base of the hair follicle instead of the top, which is a little thinner. So it won't keep getting thicker and thicker if you do shave it. It might be tough to reach your arms around your own back and shave it without making mistakes though.

I had a friend at work get laser. He looked like a bear. He now has no hair on his back and it is not coming back.

Anyone know for sure how long the laser treatment actually lasts??

I have heard that it can grow back.

I actually went to a laser hair place and had a "free consultation." Also, I read a little about it beforehand. Basically, hair grows in cycles. Any laser treatments on the hair you see will work, most of the time. For some people, it will not work very well. And the reason for the repeated treatment sessions is to get rid of the hair that do grow out later on. However, there is no guarantee that you'll ever be as smooth as a babies' behind. I have seen before and after photos and there were still hair remaining . I think the media and all the ads have only shown the good side, but spending $400 for lasering the underarm hair (5 treatments at $80 each, which is a good price) is still expensive, especially when or if there is STILL some hair left. If that is the case, I'll stick to tweezing or shaving, since I would have to "tweeze" the remaining hair anyways. Just my thoughts. :)

True true. I shave daily. I have been doing it for years it is just routine now.

Hmmm i read in some of those girly zines. That hair does not come back thicker or more course. Its just the same as it was when it was long.

Just shave. I do. :>

That's not true. It looks thicker. Normally a hair has a pointy end to allow it to grow through the skin. When you shave it, the hair becomes flat on top so it looks thicker. But you don't grow thicker or more hair if you shave.

relieved?

how do you know that someday... you won't want that hair ?

Billy Ocean 03-15-2004 07:43 PM

Does anybody know of a good nose hair trimmer, I mean really good. I have bought 2 that both pretty much sucked. The Conair broke very quickly and didn't work well and the Sunbeam one I have now just doesn't work. I want it clean up there and it doesn't seem to be working for me.

I just spent the last minute trying to think of some scenario in which I'd want the sparse hair on my back. Can't think of any though...
