How much to work out?

I have this weight bench a the whole barbell/dumbell setup. If I'm trying to at least improve the size of my biceps or something, how much should I work out? I've been told to keep it to every other day to let the muscles build back up after working out breaks them down. I'm curious if any of you people happen to know.

i personally think that you should not exercise the same muscle group more than twice a week. so doing biceps on monday, and then again on thursday or friday would be good. you can hit them nice and hard, but then give them 2 days to rest and repair before hitting them hard again.

definitely give a muscle group 24-48hrs rest if you want to build size; you need to thoroughly knacker it out then give it ages to recover. But you could, for example, do your legs on an 'arms off day'

Giving your muscles time to rest is crucial. A magazine article that I read about 20 min ago actually just reiterated that fact. In my new workout schedule I'm only going to be lifting four days out of the week! I am obviously doing isolation workouts and working out only particular parts of my body once a week. This should let you know that resting is very important. Remember more rest = more results.

Small muscle groups twice a week (arms, shoulders)
Large muscle groups once a week (legs, chest, back)

That's the routine that I hit when I am in school (starting in 2 weeks). My summer routine is lighter than that - but I include a lot more cardio into the mix.

REmember the old adage: You grow out of the gym.

Train

Rest [no more than 2x a week per body part ,unless you're juicing then your recovery is much faster]

Eat
