Phlegm at night
 

My friend gets phlegm in their throat late at night and it gets even worse if they laugh. It only started when they got pets a few years ago so I'm thinking allergy. But I'm not sure what there is to do about it. Anyone have suggestions?

Do they smoke? Does anyone they work with/ hang out with smoke? Do they live in a heavily populated area? How old are they? This kind of thing can have lot's of causes. If it is an allergy, it sounds very mild. Have your friend talk to a doctor before starting any medications. Other things to try would be using a sauna, having a hepa filter in the house (especially the bedroom).

I've had this happen to me once, only on a greater scale. I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn't breath because of all the shit in my throat. I was spazzing out so bad, then my roomate checked webmd site and it said I needed to get steem. So I turned the shower on and sat on the crapper, 5 minutes later I could feel it breaking up...and then I barfed....ALL over the bathroom...The only reason I could think of this was that I had a cold that night...no clue if that actually did anything to me.

Does sound like allergies. A nonsedating antihistamine like claritin is worth a try. Also prescription nasal inhalers like flonase, nasacort AQ, nasarel, etc will also help this problem.

Exactly. I had terrible phlegm at night for many years, and I thought that I always would. Finally, one day my doctor prescribed Claritin, and within maybe 2 or 3 days, it was completely gone! The generic brand (Alavert) also works well.

Flonase works wonders :). Another thing he should do is by an air filter for his room when sleeping. That really helped my nighttime allergy symptoms.

i use to wake up with a dry mouth and dry blood all over my gums and teeth. Mouthwash, for some reason, right before going to bed, worked...
