Baker's Cyst
 

I noticed a bulge on the back of my knee. It didn't hurt, but uncomfortable. Finally went to the doctor, and he said it was a Baker's Cyst.

Defination: Hernia-like cysts in synovial membranes, especially of the knee joints, produced by synovial fluid escaping from a joint through a natural channel or thorugh a hernial opening in the synovial membrane. Limited extension with mild aching and stiffness of knee. Occur at any age, but more frequent in males 15 to 30 years of age. Aetiology unknown.

He said about 25% of them could require surgery to remove, but most just are a bother. I have also heard/read that they can be drained for short term relief.

Anyone else had one?

Sounds like the ganglion I had removed from my ankle. It was the size of a walnut and there was no pain, but I wasn't a fan of huge lumps sticking out of the side of my leg. We gave it a couple months to go away, tried some ketoprofin to see if something inflamed was causing it (nope), so I said go ahead to the surgery. Only took a couple hours but I was on crutches for a month or so which was rather inconvenient. I could have let it go, but eh, that's what medical insurance is for. :)
