Is it worth going into more debt for more education?

I just graduated art school with a BFA in multimedia but I feel like I need more skillz. Is it worth going into more debt in order to increase my skills? I'm really interested in database management and internet/networking security. Are these high demand? Where's the best place to get training for these?

I was in the same position last year. I had just graduated with a BS in computer engineering and there really weren’t any jobs. I decided to go back and get a BS in electrical engineering and a BS in computer science.

I can't say for sure if it was a good idea because I haven’t found a job yet (not really looking until the end of summer) but I think it will be much easier for me to find a job than for someone with only one of those degrees. If nothing else, it makes me stand out to potential employers.

As for going into debt, I have heard that there are three things in life worth going into debt for. Your health, your home, and your education.

Suze Orman and other financial people will all agree that going into debt for education is a good thing.

But IMHO it's also apparent there is a point of diminishing returns. I think that if you don't have a direction in your education dovetailing into how that applies into a career, well the debt is kind of worthless.

Example, if you get a degree in Liberal Arts, then go to a Masters in Historical Art, then a Phd in Greek Art, well there aren't many jobs to go after in that field especially paying in higher salary ranges, so paying back the loans would be difficult.

I think it depends upon the person. I personally dont think its bad at all. I did an ARTS degree, then realised i needed something more, then went back and got my teaching qualifications. Now that ive been out a couple of years, im thinking of going back again and maybe doing something part-time...
