Is it worth going into more debt for more education?
I just graduated art school with a BFA in multimedia but I feel like I need more skillz. Is it worth going into more debt in order to increase my skills? I'm really interested in database management and internet/networking security. Are these high demand? Where's the best place to get training for these?

I was in the same position last year. I had just graduated with a BS in computer engineering and there really weren’t any jobs. I decided to go back and get a BS in electrical engineering and a BS in computer science.
I can't say for sure if it was a good idea because I haven’t found a job yet (not really looking until the end of summer) but I think it will be much easier for me to find a job than for someone with only one of those degrees. If nothing else, it makes me stand out to potential employers. As for going into debt, I have heard that there are three things in life worth going into debt for. Your health, your home, and your education. |

Suze Orman and other financial people will all agree that going into debt for education is a good thing.
But IMHO it's also apparent there is a point of diminishing returns. I think that if you don't have a direction in your education dovetailing into how that applies into a career, well the debt is kind of worthless. Example, if you get a degree in Liberal Arts, then go to a Masters in Historical Art, then a Phd in Greek Art, well there aren't many jobs to go after in that field especially paying in higher salary ranges, so paying back the loans would be difficult.

I think it depends upon the person. I personally dont think its bad at all. I did an ARTS degree, then realised i needed something more, then went back and got my teaching qualifications. Now that ive been out a couple of years, im thinking of going back again and maybe doing something part-time...
