any insomniacs?
i am having trouble sleeping, getting less than 2 hours a night.
i listen to my soothing music, and that's great until it's over because my body tells me that it's finished, i should be awake now. also reading worked for me for a while, but again my body tells me that i'm meant to be doing something, so i wake up. what do you guys do to help you sleep? |
I have poor sleeping habits.
Over the past 5 years I've figured out that I have poor "preparing to sleep habits." When I prepare myself via routine to go to sleep, I go to sleep relatively easily. But when I change the routine, I blow myself out of the water and have no ability to fall asleep. So I know that when it's 1 hour before I want to fall asleep, I prepare by going to the bathroom and doing the bathroom rituals, brush teeth, take meds, etc. Laying in bed, I read a book and after 30 minutes of reading. I stop and I close my eyes. Now I've also learned that it's stupid of me to drink coffee after dinner, soda before bed. Cupcakes before bed, etc. Normally I like to stay up. I like to not sleep. My body needs the rest, so I have to get it the rest somehow. Now what you're describing actually sounds like a sleep disorder. I went to a sleep clinic the other year because I wanted to know why I was the same way. I'd wake up about 2 hours into a good sleep and think the same thing. No, it was borderline sleep apnea and I wasn't getting enough oxygen and my body would wake me up so that it could get more oxygen. Have you talked to your doctor? |
theres a heap of us insomniacs here on TFP. I could rattle a few off the top of my head.
usually with insomnia, there is an underlying reason why you're not sleeping. If you treat that, you can generally fix your insomnia and work your way back to reasonably good sleeping patterns. just a few questions for you to ask yourself if you havent already.. when did it start? do you know the reason why your not sleeping? exams? work stress?... is it intermittant sleep? or just no sleep at all? on nights that you sleep well, what has been different in your habits to let you sleep? |
