How about feather roach clips?
We used to win these at the county fair. I had a pink one attached to my rearview mirror for a couple of years in the early '80s.

Re: mixedmedia's spirograph:
I wanted to get my son a spirograph for Christmas, I loved mine when I was a kid. It was so cheaply made, I passed. I was disappointed I almost forgot the most important weapon in any 80's girl's arsenal:

My two brothers and I would play the Amiga500 for hours and hours. Our favourite was Earl Weaver Baseball. It drove us nuts because anytime we played the all-star level Earl would always have a rally in the ninth to beat any of us. Drove us crazy.

At school, just as we entered the 6th form, the rules changed, to let 6th formers choose their clothes. Afgan coats were forbidden, but those ADIDAS Sports bags usually had one in them, waiting until the school day finished and we'd go to the forbidden coffe bars.
These were allowed And my goodness, I can still remember the feeling of "Now we are in the space age!"

As for the digital watch (something Douglas Adams was keenly fascinated with) your post reminded me of the one or two kids who managed to get a CALCULATOR digital watch: and as for calculators, these came out in my grade 12 yr, and of course were banned from exams & tests. The Texas Instruments TI-59: You could select a program card and slide it into the side for specific functions as well.
