FBI Background Check
Hi
I'm applying for the JET Progam in Japan. It's a teaching English gig with some really great benefits. One of their requirements is for me to submit my FBI background check. I can turn this one in separately because it takes up to 12 weeks to process. And this is where I'm stressing out. I sent in my application to the FBI about a month ago for my background check and I still haven't heard a word from them. Not even a email. This worries me because the deadline to submit my background check to the Japanese Embassy is Jan 21, 2011. It's still over a month away but time flies by really quick. So I'd like to know if any one has done this, or know the process, that can tell me how long does it typically take for the FBI to process a request? I hope it's not the full 12 weeks 'cause I'd be screwed. JET is a once in a life time opportunity for me and I'd hate to be disqualified just because of a technicality--one that may have been prevented. Anyone? Thanks.

My little brother did the FBI background check thing and it took quite some time, a few months if memory serves. Just having sent in his application was enough for what he needed it for, though. You should ask JET if they need the check finished before you begin.
