Genetic testing services
I have been interested in DNA, chromosomes, and hereditary in general since I read a few books by Matt Ridley (The Red Queen hypothesis). Today, I finally got my genetic results back from 23andme.com. I was a little disappointed at the generality of the results, which weren't nearly as specific as I was hoping for. The test identifies your paternal and maternal line haplogroups, which have been located to a number of geographic regions globally. While it's a little interesting, it's basically worthless as there are dozens of other related ancestors who are unaccounted for and provide just as much genetic material. Needless to say, it was a waste of money. I would have got more worthwhile information talking to my grandparents. I was able to order the test at a reduced price, but it was nothing like it was advertised. Anybody else have experiences with getting their genes analyzed, either online or through a clinical setting?
