What activities do you get up to with your SO?

Besides bed sports, watching movies, lounging etc., I mean what exercise do you and your SO do together? I'm just curious really.

My wife and I go for bike rides, hikes, and play squash, but that's about it really. We're gonna join a gym and start swimming soon. SWMBO insists that I do yoga with her, but I'm not that keen. Just like I want her to join me in some martial arts, but she's not interested.

And you?
:)

we go for drives. To tour the city or the countryside.. Sometimes we just pick a random route, other times we only turn when there is a red light.

grocery shopping is our other big together activity. It's a good time to connect.

we like to get up early on a saturday morning and get in the car and head out...destination unknown..just to see where we end up and what we can get into

we also love to hike and find out of the way flea markets, antique/junk shops

It really depends on the girl, what I did with one isn't necessarily what I did with another. I might meet a girl who's really into music and spend a lot of time hitting up random concerts to discover new music, with some we enjoyed outdoor activities (canoeing, hunting, fishing, hiking) while still others tended to be home bodies and loved just curling up on the sofa and watching tv/movies.

A few years ago I had a "girlfriend", I use quotations because I didn't even know her last name, who for some reason or another I only spent time with getting messed up and stumbling around the city until dawn looking for stuff to do. I did have a blast though, there was something incredibly romantic about downing a few bottles of jack with a hot girl, taking her hand and just getting lost amongst the city lights. It almost always resulted in some kind of memorable adventure be it stumbling into a new bar/club, meeting a crazy cabbie, finding a new park or just meeting odd nighttime city people. I miss doing that.

I also have to echo what the above posters said about taking random drives. I used to do that with so many girls I was with. Get up, hop in the car with a case of beer, a book of cd's, a sleeping and just drive. We'd drive around until it got to dark to see anything and if lucky enough to stumble onto some secluded lake or stream on some old logging road we'd just snuggle up in the sleeping bag and spend the night. Great way to spend a weekend.

hmm..

we don't do anything.. except go to the bars or clubs or a concert

wow.. when I see it in writing, it's kinda sad. I mean we do some stuff on the whim, but mostly we just do stuff with the kids or go get drunk when the kids are gone.

Idyllic 04-20-2010 01:06 PM

Geo Caching with the kids, weekly to biweekly Water/Amusement (6flags) Park with the kids, ____________ w/ kids. We don't get out much without the kids, but we do a lot of things together.

When it was just my husband and I we fished and fished and fished some more, we camped on the beach and spent days by the water, we scalloped, we swam, we snorkeled, we slept under the stars, we lived on the beach. I look forward to those beach days to come. Oh, and we cooked the fish and ate the fish together, so awesome.

Cycling, running, hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, painting, horseback riding, mountain biking, weight lifting, rock climbing, and so on.. pretty much anything outdoors. Can you tell that we're workout partners?

We like to go for bike rides around town, especially to the Saturday farmer's market. We're fortunate to live in an area where there is a lot of greenspace and where the university's research forest (public land) is right up against city limits. There are a number of trails within 10 minutes of my house, and we take advantage of this frequently. Camping is another interest of ours. My SO has taught me a lot about the outdoor life (I was a complete n00b when we met), and I've come to really enjoy it. We went camping over spring break, and he said, "Well, look at you, camper girl!" as I was busy arranging our gear in the tent. My SO is not a huge fan of car camping, and so anywhere we camp invariably involves a short hike (1/2 mile or so--remember, I'm a beginner!). We're looking to get more into backpacking this summer; he is a very experienced backpacker with many multiday (some multiweek!) trips under his belt. There are a couple trips we're eyeing as possibilities. I just need boots and I'm good to go. We also like going on walks around town. We live in a very walkable city and we take advantage of that, too. Additionally, we play together on recreation league ultimate frisbee teams, and play the occasional game of disc golf. And we're getting a canoe this summer! I just need to figure out how to get it to my house.

Where we live just encourages people to be active by its setting alone, but the city also does a good job of making sure the infrastructure is there to enable people to be active (good parks, sports fields, tennis courts, bike trails and paths, interpretive trails, playgrounds, sports teams, disc golf course, recreation center, and even a fitness trail.

I was kinda talking about what physical exercise ya'll get up to with your SO, but there are still some great ideas. :) Going for drives is always fun!

Kayaking is something we also want to get into, but there are no lakes nearby, only ocean. That's still fun and all, but often the conditions are dodgy.

Leto 04-21-2010 04:19 AM

well, we have been trying to start hiking. But there is a bidg difference between the kind of hiking that I would like to do (5 to 10 hrs, wilderness) and what my wife likes (nature trail, birding areas for about an hour or so). We end up looking for local trails and therefore spending more time driving and stopping for a coffee/ butter tart /doughnut/ chelsea bun than actually hiking!

We like traveling.
We like to go to grocery stores and look at the different kinds and types of foods in ethnic markets.
We like to stay home together and not see any other people.
We like to play World of Warcraft together.
We like to eat out at different restaurants.
We like to watch theater.
We like to watch movies.

As far as physical activity is concerned:

Recently:
Hiking, long walks.

In recent years:
Backpacking, running, kyaking, cycling.

We would cycle together now, but we only have one bike between the two of us. We do enjoy walking to the gym together, though we pretty much split up at the door (him = rowing/weights, me = cardio/track/pool).

We do some of both with our hiking, but we have a great book that helps us find local trails. Check out your local library, if you haven't already. Looking at the Toronto Public Library's catalogue, I found 65 titles on "hiking Ontario." This book looks promising: Nature Hikes: Near-Toronto Trails and Adventures and it's available at the library. With a guide in hand, you can spend less time driving and more time hiking.

Together? Passing the remote back and forth.

I'm a soccer player. She's a bellydancer. I challenge you to find a way to merge them.

I guess we hike quite a bit.

rahl 04-21-2010 07:06 AM

The wife and I are doing p90x together.
Other than that, not much other physical activity(other than bedroom antics)
We don't cycle, or jog.

Shagg 04-22-2010 07:10 PM

We do a lot of walking in general. We've spent the afternoon in downtown LA just looking at architecture and going through shops. We like to go through antique shops, vintage clothing shops, used book stores etc. We usually hit the Ren Faire a couple times each season and we are working on putting costumes together for the various costume events... steampunk and pirate costumes are our current projects.

She's doing her best to get me to dance, she got me to go to a lindy hop night with her, but I was still sober so she wasn't able to get me dancing.

We do have some hikes and bike rides planned for the summer and we've discussed hiking Mt Whitney if we ever get back into somewhat decent shape. I used to backpack in my younger days and wouldn't mind working through the pacific crest trail piecemeal.

Well I am SO-less at the moment, but with previous SO's we didn't do that much physical activity. I've never been very big on sports and whatever we did in that respect was done separately for the most part, like going to the gym or taking a pilates class. I only started surfing after my last serious relationship so I haven't really had the chance to share that with any of the guys I've been with since.

Activities I did with previous boyfriends:

visit art shows
see movies at home and at the cinema
walk our cats (yes I'm serious)
go to the beach
hang out with friends at their houses or at parties
do photo sessions with each other (one was a photographer)
cook together
go out to dinner
sit at home or at an outdoor café each reading their own book
go on weekend trips to rural areas of Portugal
swimming
badmington
tennis
volleyball with friends on the beach
clothes shopping
walks in the park
go to the occasional concert or play

All I can think of for now!

Due to knee injuries, hubby is pretty much confined to cycling, swimming, and walking for the rest of his life. Neither of us swim, but he recently got a bicycle and wants me to get one too. I've never particularly enjoyed cycling, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it another go.

We both love traveling and do so whenever we get the chance. We attend soccer games together, go to movies, and sit around in our pajamas after Saturday morning breakfast and have long talks about whatever. We both like to camp and are determined to start fishing this summer. We take our son to feed ducks, to the zoo and aviary, and to kick a soccer ball around - as long as son does the running and hubby just kicks, we're ok.
