Bone Bruise - how long does it last?
My lovely wife dropped a hard heavy object (no, not my dick, but thank you for asking) on her foot, just above the toe-knuckles.
Three weeks later, it is still painful and somewhat swollen. According to her it feels "broken." X-rays say it is not broken. So... how long does a mean bone-bruise last? I had a friend who was accosted my skinheads, and he had a lump on his head for months, but I don't know if it felt broken. Any insight?

I remember banging my knee against another fellow's knee when doing a kata back in the day. The bedamned kneecap hurt for over a year.

So that's what it is. I had a sore toe from running barefoot back in summer 08. I know it wasn't broken but it was still sore for almost a year. Thanks!

She's got to wear serious protective footwear at work. Her accident happened as she was changing out of work clothes, into her regular clothes. Ironic, no?

Bummer. Well, when she's not at work, if she can go barefoot at home or wear something less constrictive on that foot while running errands or what not, that will should help her foot feel more comfortable (to a degree). I'm sure her work shoes are kinda painful right now. I have heard you can try Advil, but I don't know how effective it would really be.

I've had a few. Mostly from being stepped on by horses (and believe me, I can understand her pain).
The suggestions I've gotten from doctors include ice in the early stages of the bruise, and as a lump forms (if she gets one), massaging it daily to help break down any scar tissue forming. Holy hell, does massaging it hurt.. but it did help reduce the size of the lump on my heel when I got stepped on most recently. Good luck.. sometimes the bruising was bad enough for me that I wish I HAD broken the bone instead, so at least the pain would be justified and I'd be in a brace or cast to avoid hurting it further.

I sprained my ankle and got a bone bruise, and I was on crutches for a month and a half and had discoloration for almost three.
Good luck! :P

I yanked a beach towel off the top of a brick wall.
Two loose bricks hit the top of my foot. The pain was intense for six weeks, and then fair to middlin' for two years, on and off. It was most noticeable when cold water would be involved. After three years the pain was mostly gone, unless there was a big low pressure storm moving in. I hope your wife heals quickly. |

Yeah, months. My digits are still in pain from a fight I got into in October, but at least the pressure they are able to be put under has lessened.

I was hit by a car in high school. Long story. But the outside of my upper left thigh was where I was hit. It was black - the pain was agony. Couldn't stand on it for months. I was in physical therapy for it. Yes, I had a knee injury as well but the pt was also for the bruised thigh. So yeah, it can take a very long time. I hope the doctor is hooking her up with pain medication. She's earned it.
