Current Trends in Eyewear

Have you recently been struck with the beauty of eyewear? Perhaps you dig the librarian look, or maybe you saw a pair of sunglasses that struck you as delightful! Please share stories and images of your favorites!
I've shared a few of mine below...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is my motivation for starting this thread?

I wear prescription eyeglasses daily. Here's a pic of me wearing my current frames:

I have (gas-perm, hard) contact lenses, but they are only for special occasions.

The trend with the top designers in women's eyewear seems to be thick rectangular acetate frames. These are notoriously heavy, then you pop in my thick lenses and it becomes a real issue. I dislike the rectangular shape, but these seem to be everywhere.

Prada

Then there's the "too-sophisticated-for-you" look. The male mycologist on this floor wears glasses similar to these:

Vogue

I have been told by opticians in the recent past that my eyeglass prescription is too high for framless styles. So frames like these are out of the picture, but that doesn't stop my from loving them:

Blvgari

It's difficult finding frames for everyday wear that are feminine by nature. It seems they offer the same old thing but in girly colors and a slightly smaller frame size.

As far as sunglasses go...

Anyone remember these?

hehe. I love Doc Brown.

But seriously, this round-ish style keeps showing up in different colors by different designers:

i'm wearing the same frames as the guy standing next to you. i used to wear round frames, but i looked like an owl. as for sunglasses, when i wore contacts, i wore oakley eyejackets. i think they look the best on certain face types.

I've had my current glasses for far too many years now. They are the ones in my avatar picture.

I'm ready for some new ones ... but I just can't make up my mind. I've also cut off all of my hair so the glasses are waaaaay too heavy for my face now. Not that you can tell in the picture.

I just don't know what to get.

Me too. I've had the same Dolce & Gabanna frames for a few years now and I'm ready for a change but I wear contacts most of the time anyway.

I found these on sale at a Sunglass Hut and couldn't resist:

I'm definitely an aviator man when it comes to shades but I almost always go for eyeglass like the first frame in GG's post.

Charlatan 07-15-2009 04:40 PM

I like these sunglasses...

And these are my current glasses...

My glasses are pretty much the same style as Charlatan's, but they're two tone, brown in the front, and flat black on the arms. And they're Transitions, so they act as my sunglasses too.

And for the record, I absolutely love the style of sunglasses that Nicole Richie is wearing. I think they're hot.

I need to start thinking about this - I was farsighted as a child, and the doctors told my parents it would disappear around age 13 (it did) and reappear in middle age (it has). I'm used to buying reading glasses at Walgreens - been doing it for about 5 years now, but now things even 10 or 15 feet away are getting slightly blurry, so I need some "permanent" glasses. I guess I'd better update my fashion sense - my sunglasses are still the Rayban Wayfarers I bought in '87!

My glasses kind of look like these. I want to get a pair that like my old glasses that looked like these.

My sunglasses look like these.

I also wear a cheaper pair like these.

I LOVE men in glasses!

Mine are similar to these:

My sunglasses look like these. Had darker prescription lenses fitted into the frame.

I wear sunglasses 90% of the time I am outside and the sun is up. Only exceptions are when it's severely overcast.

I own these two pairs:

Silhouette 8594:

On a side note, a woman in tastefully chosen glasses is incredibly sexy. Wear glasses and you will for sure get my attention.

Halx 07-15-2009 06:54 PM

I am not trendy. I just like my sunglasses. They are perfect for me.

Giant Hamburger 07-15-2009 07:22 PM

I just recently had to admit that I needed reading glasses.
I went to the grocery store and bought a pair of old lady 1.25 magnification for $6.00.

I get laughed at around the house.

I never wear sunglasses.

DaniGirl 07-15-2009 08:00 PM

I want a pair like these, I would wear them all the time :hyper:

That is what I have (they may be a little more rounded). They do scratch a little too easily however. I wish you could buy replacement lenses.

laconic1 07-16-2009 08:09 PM

I'm thankful I don't have to wear corrective glasses. The only time I wear glasses are when I'm driving. I wear these Spy sunglasses I've had for about 5 years now.

I have to admit I love glasses on women, especially the thick rectangular "Tina Fey" glasses that are in style now. I found it rather irritating when Sarah Palin was referred to as wearing Tina Fey glasses when the two styles could hardly have been more different!

Grasshopper Green 07-17-2009 08:08 PM

I usually wear contacts, but I wear glasses when they aren't in. I have a somewhat wide face and most frames don't fit properly. I wish there were more style available for wide faces.

Xerxys 07-31-2009 09:06 PM

Just so y'all should know I'm suing this thread for peer pressure.

I just bought my ever first two pairs of sunglasses today and I am totally diggin' them.

I have specs for reading because i have astigmatism but I never use them because they make my eyes water and i can read just fine with a mean face on.

snowy 07-31-2009 09:13 PM

I've had my current frames for almost 3 years now. I tried wearing simple wire rims with my last pair of frames, but they just don't look right on my face. My eyebrows demand the heavier dark plastic frames. My current ones are a dark brown from Guess? and I love them almost as much as I loved my Calvin Klein black plastic frames in high school.

What can I say? I like looking like a sexy librarian!

I just saw this, Squee - that guy standing next to me is Tt, he used to wear round frames as well...

Oh no, what have I started?!

allaboutmusic 08-01-2009 10:33 AM

I have about six pairs of glasses, but the two in regular use are a pair of frameless ones with squarish lenses similar to the third pair down in the OP (and with Transitions lenses, which are AWESOME), and a pair of squarish framed glasses with medium-wide plastic legs.

I wear a pair of valentinos that are about to bite the dust. I'm getting new ones on Monday and I think I'm leaning towards rimless. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread though.

I always wanted cute heavier frames, but they look funny on me. :)
Here are mine in a different color. Mine are a bronzy-rose frame, not electric blue.

About a year ago, I tried on these awesome sunglasses. I need rx lenses and can't afford Maui Jim's anyway, but wow... even with the rose tint.

allaboutmusic 08-01-2009 11:39 AM

My Transitions pair are similar to that, noodle, but the frames are made by Silhouette. You can choose the lens shape if you go Rx.
