Living in the suburbs, living in the city

I work and live 45 minutes away from NYC but thoroughly enjoy NYC. While I'm not particularly interested in finding a new job in the city (I have good employment where I am), I am interested in finding an apartment to live in on occasion -- basically when I've partied too late and don't want to drive home. Also, since I'm back in the dating scene, I want to have a place where I can take a lady back to.

Question is: how do you recommend I find a relatively inexpensive place in which I can do this? Find a roommate/whomever who is cool with the fact that I'll only be there three nights a week or so?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

In New York City? Toss the hobo a $100 and ask him to scooch over.

what is considered inexpensive?

Also there is very decent rent in parts of brooklyn, downtown, and even other parts of NYC, rent prices have definitely softened in NYC.

If you don't need much space, you'll have a lot more options. I know some folks make agreements with people like flight attendants and pilots to take a smaller portion of rent since they won't be there as frequently.

Just rent out a room at a hostel for the day(s) you'll be in the city.
