Cat Repellant
 

My roommate has this cat that has decided it will cry outside my door whenever it wants to go outside or vice versa and cry outside the windows until someone lets it in. The former roommate who lived here just left the window open which I am not ok with. I also installed some doors to my room separating it from the rest of the house and the cat just sits and cries outside them. Usually this doesn't bother me but last night at 2am I was trying to go to sleep and the damn cat decided it was just going to sit outside the window and cry. I open the window and it won't come in. Just sits.

I have class at 8am so needless to say I'm up at 7am. My roommate said if I just left my door open at night AND the window it wouldn't be an issue. I like my privacy!!

However it's my room that I pay rent for and her cat. I should not have to cater to her cat! Right? I told her I didn't want to leave my window open because it's at the front of the house which faces a rather busy downtown street...thus a security issue. (also she mentioned in the past the cat had a bad habit of bringing in "presets" and hiding them around the house, that must be a fun surprise!)I'd much rather deal with cat crap in a box (which is also located in my bathroom which never seems to get cleaned except when I do it) then the stupid cat crying at 2am to be let in and then clawing at my door at 6am to be let out. That shit is not gonna fly. Tempted to just drive the cat to the other side of the city and let it find a new home..

Some solutions I have thought about trying include sticky double sided tape on the window sills and some of that cat deterrent stuff. I'm just tired of dealing with the stupid thing at 6AM when I don't have to be up until 7AM!

Anyone tried anything like this?

Every time the cat wakes you up, go bang on your roommate's door and tell her her cat wants in. See how she likes getting woken up.

I had the same problem with an ex-neighbor and his bark-all-night-at-nothing dog. After a few rings of his doorbell at 3:00 a.m., he started keeping his dog in the house at night.

But to answer your question about cat repellent, I've tried one and it didn't work. It came in a pink aerosol can and it smelled weird. I'm sure there are others out there though.

I can't really tell from your OP, but is there a wall or ledge that the cat must use to get to your area of the house? If so, you might try putting down some chicken wire on that surface. I've heard that, for some reason, cats are freaked out about walking on chicken wire, and avoid it.

An idea may be redirecting the cat. Buy a can of tuna, put it in a bowl and put it at a different window. Do this a few days in a row and not only has the cat found a different ledge, but you have the added benefit of having selflessly fed a nice animal.

my buddy always used a squirt gun on any of his misbehaving cats. it seemed to work pretty well. i'd imagine eventually all you'd have to do is point the gun @ the cat and it would shut up.

Well I talked to the roommate...and suggested we let the cat out through the bathroom window from now on. So last night as the cat attempted to run into my room I picked it up and carried it to the bathroom window and proceeded to shove her ass out it at least 7 times before she got the message. I haven't heard her since, hopefully that will work. I'd love to squirt it but the owner is home too often and probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Get yourself an ultrasonic cat deterrent, stick it outside you door so the cat triggers it when it comes near. Unless you have v sensitive ears you won't hear it but the cat will and it should bugger off!
Alternatively get some cat nip and put it somewhere far enough away from your room that the cat is attracted to it instead. Just be careful with that approach though as you may attract other cats which I guess is not what you are after!

Spray some water in its face next time it starts crying at your door. It should stop after a few times of you doing this. Maybe even stop at the first time you do this. Laugh in its face, too, when you do it. muahahahahahaha

Spray bottles are excellent for non-violent feline behavioural correction. If I were going to recommend a solution, this would be it.

It doesn't harm the kitty, but the kitty definitely won't like it. Give it a couple of times to associate unwanted behaviour with unpleasant consequences, and the unwanted behaviour stops.

Not all cats are bothered by water, especially ones that have ever lived outside for any period of time. Worth a shot though, I guess.

Scare the cat into silence and wake the roomie out of her daydream. After a couple of times, the cat may not even come back home. Just don't hold the cat outside her door while you sound the air horn.

I am not sure if the maniacal laugher will help any, but spray bottles work wonders. This is how we stopped our cats from climbing on our screens and trying to run in the door every time its open.

The air horn comment made me laugh pretty damn hard, that would be pretty funny.
