geneology question - ethnicity search

** note: I couldn't find a regular genealogy forum to post about this specific topic so I'm posting here. **

How would I find out my ethnicity under these circumstances: My father was adopted and he has no intentions of seeking out his birth parents. He has no idea of his ethnicity, so my lineage on my father's side is empty. Do I go to his parents and ask for his adoptive company? Who do I approach to figure out such a thing.

And also, if I were to post a picture of myself could my features be able to roughly identify my ethnicity?

My father "says," and vaguely, that we're southern European and Native American.

Any thoughts? :expressionless:

Not sure what the laws are concerning uncovering adoptive parent/grandparents etc in your are - however, genetic testing is a possibility to explore. One that examines paternal DNA may give you some clues as to your paternal ancestry.

I agree with Highthief, a full DNA spectrum test will be able to provide you with clues to your ethnic origin.

But you have to remember that they are clues and not a definitive answer. The DNA test will be able to give you a general "area" but not specific area. Eastern European may be a result but not a specific country.

I sort of find this question interesting. I myself an adopted. Is there a specific reason you want to know or just curiosity?

my reason behind it

I've had my share of "problems" and I feel that I could get some enlightenment from learning where I originated from. Even though the world's a very diverse place, there are still characteristics that erupt from different backgrounds regardless of where you were raised, for instance your personality or how you view life/religion/etc.

Plus: If it's applicable, Native Americans can receive educational benefits! **semi joke**

I just wanna know where I'm from. Ever since I grew up and started viewing life in a new perspective, it's been almost like a gnawing feeling inside me, wondering what I am ya know? :oogle:
