Milk is covered, how about fluoridated water?
Good? Bad?
|
eh we have chlorine in our water, if it helps us then ok no problem
|
Too much flourine can cause discoloration of your teeth.

It's a communist plot to steal our precious bodily fluids.
Too much flouring can cause extreme bone brittleness, but in america, they don't use too much, so the benifits outweigh the risks. |
i thought flouride was good for teeth?
Its always on toothpaste tubes... again the amount in water is probably negligable, so no biggy. |
If I'm not wrong, and I might be, flouride is used ON the teeth to kill stuff, a topical disinfectant maybe. Flouride in the teeth, ?? There's debate on how much flouride is too much in the drinking water, but it's supposedly much higher than the amounts put into drinking water.
Maybe you should as popo, he's a dentist. Maybe I'll be one, one day, if I live long enough |
there was a huge debate about adding it to the water here last year. i'm not sure about the risks (cancer?) but I grew up with it and I've never had a cavity at 31, and my parents have horrible teeth. My one-year-old, who drinks non-flouridated bottled water from a water cooler already has brown spots the doctor says will become cavities. ask me again in 30 years to see if I have cancer or something, and excuse any tupos cuz i drank too fuckin' much.

There are some people who try and strike fear in the public about fluoride being a poison, etc but there is absolutely no proof of this. In Colorado (IIRC), in the 1940's or so people began to notice that there were lots of kids' teeth that had white spots on them. It wasn't pretty-looking but they also noticed that these kids didn't get any cavities. Eventually it was linked to the fact that their drinking water had lots of fluoride in it and this jump-started studies on it.
It was found that using 1 part per million of fluoride in drinking water did not cause any harmful effects (like the white chalky teeth) but still gave the cavity protection. Since then, most cities in the US have moved to fluoridation. Yes, there are people who think that this is the work of Satan and there are people who are convinced that their root canals are the root of their medical problems. Basically, it's much easier to convince people that something is dangerous than it is to convince them that it's safe. What are you gonna do... |
