Confused about life - what should I do for a job?
Hey all, I'm a newcomer here, stumbled upon here accidentally
by a random google search result - I think it was "Do You Find Vaginas Attractive??" LOL :-D So, atm I'm working at a call centre - IT Helpdesk - a mightily boring job. I'm talking to n00bs all day long explaining simple stuff like how to setup email. Really frustrating job and I find myself disillusioned. I'm in my late twenties now and I'm at an intersection and I don't know where to go (as in career wise). I know I have 2 interests that I want to pursue: one is molecular biology and second is photography. If I want to be a biology researcher it's gonna take a looong time to do that from my point now cos I have to study bachelor, master, phd, postdoc and so on. Plus I don't want to relive being a poor uni student again. Second path is more attractive since I am doing it now but the thing is that it's not easy to find a living as an [artistic] photographer. I haven't even got a clue yet on how to do it. Yes, I am looking around on how to establish a home-based photography business. So my question to you guys is: have you ever got to this situation before, where you just don't know what to do for a job - and are you happy with the decision that you take? Thanks for the suggestions and comments! |
Sounds like a quarter life crisis. Save up some money, quit your job, and go traveling for a while to get a new perspective.

you are a young'n, your interests will most likely change over the years. there is no right answer, either path you choose will have its ups and downs and you cant think "damn, the other choice would have been better" cause it wont. it will have just been different. so, choose a path, enjoy it, do what lubeboy said and travel, and just kinda go with the flow. it all works out in the end.

Ya know, the military will give you a good, thorough life enema.

Welcome to the ride!
It really is about that one thing. Up to you to figure that out what that one thing is though.... |
Actually, I dont see why you cant do both. Maybe not all at the same time, but life is longer than you would expect. Study your biology and keep doing the photography on the side and i'm sure you will eventualy develop a third totally different interest and think "damn, why didnt i do this years ago."
