What would you do with 48 extra hours a week?
You can consider it 2 more days or 7 more hours each day...(48/49...)
Would you want to work more to earn more money? Would you spend more time with family? Would you do the same things you do now, just more of the same? Or would you do something to change your life? I came to this question because I don't have a problem with having enough money right now. I don't have a lot, but I have more than enough for my current lifestyle I like. The problem is that I don't have time. Either I have too much to do (like the past 4 weeks), or I get distracted and just waste too much time on meaningless things in the long run. There are a few things I would change currently: 1. I would start cooking my own food instead of outsourcing it to fast food places. 2. I would stay organized and be able to clean a little more. 3. I would get enough sleep. I should be sleeping now. 4. I would hang out, write to, call, and make new friends. I would research how to keep friends and be a fun person to be around as well. 5. I make exercise 20% more. This is one part of my life right now that I do make time for. 6. I would have time to work on some projects I've been meaning to do. 7. I would visit my family a little more. 8. I may invent some new things and start my own business. |
What I really need is two extra days in the week, one between Thursday and Friday, and one between Sunday and Monday, giving me a four-day weekend.
If I had this, I would travel more (weekend getaways are hard for me to pull off, because as an observant Jew, I don't travel between sunset Friday and nightfall Saturday). No question. I love to travel, I just so rarely have time, even for a quick buzz out of the city.... Also, I would totally write more. My single biggest regret about being in grad school is the lack of time to do my own writing. This novel is taking forever to get through!!! And also, who am I kidding, I'd probably get it on with my girlfriend a little extra.... |
I'd finally finish learning German!
...99 luftballons, auf ihrem weg zum horizont, hielt man fuel UFOs aus dem all, darum schickte ein general! *dances away* |
Having to enjoy the pleasures of home/wife for only 36 hours every other weekend, I would definately use an extra 48 hours to just relax and slow down.
Once I got used to having the extra time, I'd probably focus on my continuing studies of espanol and staying/improving my fitness level. |

4. As I'm not making enough time to exercise these days, I would definitely do so. 5. I would make more time (and effort) to keep in better touch with old friends. 6a. For specific projects, I'd love to spend more time on personal art and design pieces. 7. I would spend more time with my family, both immediate here at home and extended elsewhere. 8. I'd take up martial arts, as I've been wanting to for the past couple of months. 9. I would definitely practice music more. 10. I'd try to get the obligations out of the way faster to make more time to travel. All of this would depend on overcoming the temptation to spend those extra hours vegging out. If I can't manage to squeeze two to three productive hours out of the "free" time I have outside of work and commuting, using 48 extra hours per week more wisely may be just as challenging. |
I'd be even more lazy....
I do better and am more creative with less. In order for me to get this gain, I've got to give up something. Normally, I give up sleep or activities I don't like doing. |
Boring as it sounds, I'd probably just sleep more. I don't get enough sleep...
Other than that, I'd get outside more. With a while two extra days, I could go camping every week :D And hiking, and swimming and stuff. I suppose I'd have to study a little more, too, when the quarter starts, or at least NOT wait until the last minute to do homework & such. Or...no, wait. Better idea: I'd finally learn to play guitar. Yeah. That's the one I'm going with. |
It wouldn't change anything for me. I don't feel constrained by the calendar; therefore, there is no "extra" time.

I am actually finding this a rather difficult question. Having been more or less confined by illness for the last 10 months it is a challenge.
I know one of my personal goals right now is to become more fit. It isn't that I am fat and flabby, but I have been forced to be somewhat inactive for nearly a year. I would definitely exercise more. Going back to work will leave me tired for a while, having extra time to exercise would be a huge thing. I would also like to take an opportunity to really get back to cooking more. I haven't had a whole lot of energy(or the appetite) to make the best of meals so that will need some redoing. This would also allow me time to add more working hours which I have been needing to do, without severely impairing other parts of my life. |
Play more videogames.
|
Hookers.

It depends on what those around me would do with their time.
If everyone were inclined to work a those extra hours, wouldn't inflation ruin all of my fun? Sometimes I would take vacations. I would spend every Saturday painting. I would probably spend more time studying. I would never work more than a 6-hour day. |
I get 48 extra hours after every week. Imagine this, I call it my week-end every Friday and Monday at work.
I piddle it like I do the rest of my time. I usually have more fun since I am not at work though. Any time the alarm clock is off I am a happy man. That said, If I had another 48 I would prolly spend that time sleeping too! |
Hm, with 48 more hours?
Have 2 days to actually do stuff, like homework, since i'm lazy :D |
Would love to add hours to each day. For some odd reason if i sleep the time my body wants to sleep i end up on a 30-34 hour day if i dont go back to sleep again untill im tired again. Would make life a whole lot easier for me. If every day had 30 hours or so i would find a job working 2 20 hour days a week if i could then have a few days off after every work day. That way every day would feel like friday. At work thinking yay i dont have to work tomorrow. Sure the long hours would suck but... work sucks no matter what might as well just get it out of the way.

I'm amazed you asked this question with this exact number. At first I thought you were talking about polyphasic sleep, which is a sleep cycle program you use to train your body to sleep 2 hours a day. I figured that you got 7 x 7 hours by taking your "ideal" 9 hours of sleep/day and subtracting the 2 you'd take.
I would work out more, devote more time to personal projects, cook my own meals, and veg out a little more (or about the same). The 4th can't be avoided with me |

heh! you'd probably end up fixing shit around here for 47 out of those 48 hours |
I think I'd just spend more time doing what I already do with my free time. I doubt it would bring about a new paradigm.
