What Are Your Favorite Simple Luxuries?
What do you do to make your life a little more comfortable and luxurious? One thing I like doing is buying new socks. Having brand new socks in my closet makes me look forward to getting dressed. It's nothing fancy, but makes me happy.
What Are Your Favorite Simple Luxuries? |
I don't know if I have many simple ones, but I now enjoy being able to walk a short ways from my front door to a basketball court to play. I really like that.
|
Leaving all my windows open all day and all night long.
Congratulations on your good move Halx. * |
All I need to be happy is my guitar and a smoke.
|
I'm not a regular coffee drinker, and I don't hit up Starbucks too often, but to me, a nice Frappuccino qualifies as a simple luxury to me. A nice, occasional treat, especially on a hot, summer day.
|
buying new clothes, watching Friends, stopping and relishing the moment I am in with my son or my boyfriend, taking a long shower, taking a short jog, exercise...
|
switching from HBO to Showtime and having a season of Weeds to watch on On Demand.
|
Simply being home for the weekend while being stuck in some, eh, "quaint" government dorms is luxurious to me. Fluffy towels, private showers, my own toilet, being in our ginormous king-sized bed naked with my wife. Those are pretty damn luxurious things to me right now, and I can't wait until I'm back for good.
|
-waking up before my alarm goes off and thinking "there's more time :)"
-A cold shower after a day at work; just letting the water run over my head. -Driving around the highways here blasting music in my car with the sun roof down. -Sex. |
Easy! Clean, line-dried sheets, and a shower before bed.
|
DVR, and having every other Friday off from work.
|
On a typical day:
-Being able to sleep in if I choose -Waking up with a cup of loose leaf tea -Relaxing in an air conditioned home -Having access to a private backyard pool and jacuzzi -Fresh herbs and produce from my garden -Internet access -Chocolate (the kind you don't find at the supermarket) |
After a 10 mile walk/jog, getting home, taking a lukewarm shower, having a glass of tea while you soak your feet in epsom salt.
Having the windows open while a nice Spring breeze fills your apartment |
I guess it all depends on how you qualify simple. For me it's good beer, a nice bike ride, and strumming my guitar.
|
I like a perfect Sunday.... Beach, my girl, sun and good waves, a cooler full of hard cider, and the surf music playing loud. At sunset, frozen strawberry margaritas, and Baja fish tacos; then, home to bed....
|
Sleeping in without having tossed and turned all night. The last few days, I've really missed that.
|
Quality coffee with cream.
Macaroni and cheese. A hot shower. A cooking or travel magazine. A hug from a small child. |
living close enough to my office that i can come home for lunch! I live 2 blocks away so I walk home and veg out for an hour, nap or whatever.
Great way to recharge and reset yourself for the afternoon, and it really breaks up my day. |
Home made ice cream, especially key lime, amaretto, cinnamon or clove flavors.
|
Getting in a nicely made bed.
Good food. Grey Goose. Sleep. Beaches. |
Bubble baths. Mmmmmmmm. Nothing better on a rough day than a relaxing soak in fresh, peach-scented bubbles. Hopping out of the bath, wrapping myself in a fluffy robe, then climbing into pressed, starched, cold sheets.
|
Waking up in the mountains every single morning.
Getting here wasn't simple, but I never cease to enjoy it. |
Conceptual interlinking thinking of connecting circumstances (coincidences)
History Infinite varieties of speech that convey and extract various degrees of thinking, understanding, & emotion. My senses Our experiences Casual conversations Ability to acclimate A superbly tender and tastefully sweet nectarine The supermarket The unseen & underappreciated knowledge that our liberties and simple freedoms were forged over many years of study, toil, trials, and necessity. |
I just ate a bowl of Lucky Charms for dinner.
When I was a kid, my mom would never buy me junk cereal like that. Now that I'm footing my own cereal bills, I get to say whether I get to eat bad marshmallows or not. |
Massage. I like treating myself to good massage. If I could afford it, I would have one every day.
Time to myself. I love going out for dinner or out for a beer at the pub. Just me and a good book. |
Whenever it rains down here in Tucson, a nice cold glass of tea while sitting out on my porch watching the rain.
Dunno, it always seems to put me in a good mood :p |
Long, hot showers after being in the field for a few days or after a hard day.
Being able to sleep in, period. Fresh clean underwear. |
Reading in my back-yard, on a spring or autumn morning - with a fresh coffee to wake up with.
|
a nice, long, hot bath with candles, a good book and a glass of wine.
a really good book out on the balcony with the kitties in the rain. getting my feet rubbed. having someone else perform a household chore that i hate. popcorn with parmesan cheese while curled up on the couch during a good movie. open-faced turkey sandwiches with spinach, tomatoes, cheddar cheese. and, like Charlatan, there is no better pleasure i can enjoy (without my partner, of course) than a massage. |
Discover Magazine...in a very Hot Bath.
|
My personalized daily comics online from the Houston Chronicle. Wallowing in the sunday Washington Post with 5G. Our new shower head.
|
I haven't had hot water at home for two months. A chance for a hot shower is a nice luxury.
|
Since neither are available in Manhattan... a quick drive to Jersey City for IHOP or when travelling... Denny's or Waffle House
International House of Pancakes Breakfast Sampler or Rooty, Tooty, Fresh and Fruity. Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast. Waffle House 2 eggs, 2 bacon, hashbrowns. what do all of these dishes have in common? Hash browns. stupid North Easterners prefer home fries.... |

My simple luxury is just quiet time. Now that me and the Mrs. work different hours, I get home early and can wind down in a nice quiet house for an hour or 2 before she gets home and tells me about her day. Its priceless. |
A fast car, a tankful of gas, and an open road.

I also love falling asleep reading a novel in bed. Have done that ever since I was a kid, especially during summer breaks. Bare feet in fresh-cut grass, and then lying down in the grass and smelling all that green goodness... on a warm, calm day, there's nothing better. (Assuming my allergy medication is working.) :p Hot water never, ever runs out here in Iceland--there's a perpetual source underground, so your showers can be as long and guilt-free as you like. :) I love just soaking in any hot, hot water--and the geothermal hot pots/hot rivers are awesome as well. No better way to relax me. Having a beer and a good, stimulating conversation with my husband after dinner is wonderful, too. And lying around naked together after sex, skin to skin, is lovely. :) |
Decent, fresh coffee, preferably made in one of these. This is even better when it's accompanied by something sweet, like homemade jam on toast, or a Danish pastry.
Going to bed, sleeping really well, and waking up with a completely clear head and absolutely nothing negative playing on my mind. Good company and a decent pint in a pub garden on a warm summer evening. Driving wherever I want, with interesting scenery and with no destination in mind, listening to music or talking with a passenger who appreciates it too. Fantastic, stimulating conversation with another person in the early hours of the morning, when the time is irrelevant because you don't have to get up in the morning and because you're so engaged you could talk for hours and not notice time passing. Enjoying and immersing myself in music - playing the piano or guitar, composing, or just listening to some decent music that I love. A really fucking awesome burger. |
