I'm wondering what everyone favorite "type" of comedic stylings do you prefer. Are you a "slapstick" kind of person? Musical Comedy? Satire? "Controversial" comedy?

And who are your favorites?

I know that I've always enjoyed Flight Of The Conchords, Dave Attell, Ricky Gervais, Jeremy Hotz, Demetri Martin, and I've always enjoyed Conan.

I'm more of a satire/random/sharp witted stuff.

I really like absurdest humor, but it's gotten kinda bland lately. I hope Zach Galifianakis and Louis CK keep putting out original stuff, they're some of my favorites.

My favorite is slapstick comedy. People getting hurt or falling cracks me up every time. I prefer old school though. I love Laurel and Hardy, Little Rascals, Lucille Ball, Dick Van Dyke, etc. Not so much 3 Stooges, but I watch them when they're on.

Satire and absurdist humor are probably my top two. I enjoy the fact that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have made satire so plentiful. Pretty much any kind of comedy that puts a person's dry, biting wit on display is my cup o' tea, too.

action comedies are a big hit for me.. the beverly hills cop series have to be up there.

Dry, absurd, satirical, and ironic (including the occasional cheap sarcasm).

Some prime examples include Monty Python, The Beatles, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Wilde, Tom Stoppard, Mark Leyner, and Charlie Kaufman.

I love Jerry Lewis movies. Carol Burnett has an incredible sense of timing. Gilda Radner was amazing. Current comedians really bore me right now. No one seems to have an inherent sense of comedy and timing. Everything seems to be "in your face" type stuff.

If you've never come across old recordings of Woody Allen doing stand-up in the early Sixties, search for them. He was really, really funny!

Also, I love, love, love Billy Connolly. He is screamingly funny. And everything sounds that much funnier in a Scots accent.

Stephen Lynch always makes me crack up. His studio albums are okay, but his live performances are just phenomenal. The superheroes bit made me laugh so hard I cried, the first time I heard it.

That said, I also like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bob Newhart, Frank Caliendo, and occasionally, Margaret Cho.

I like quick wit, absurdist, satirical observational humor.. It all depends really, good material is good material no matter the genre.

I love stuff like Reno 911 and Whitest kids you know & comedians like Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin, Demetri Martin, Zach Galifianakis, Lewis Black and Steven Wright etc..

Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, Kat Williams, Ron White and the Marx Brothers..if there's a connection there, I don't know what it is...
I know I love improv. I'm a huge fan of Whose Line Is It Anyway and Wild'n'Out; old shows like Laugh-in and The Carol Burnett Show still have me laughing til I hurt when I catch a glimpse, even tho I know most of the jokes by now.
Infomercials are selling the old Dean Martin roasts and series, so I looked them up on Youtube. Some are funny as hell.

Not sure what genre it would be, but stand up guys like Dana Gould, Patten Oswald, Dave Attel and Louis C.K. are freaking hilarious. George Carlin was a comic genius (god rest his soul) and said allowed a lot of things that I often think about, and Lewis Black is the most innovative user of the word "Fuck" I have ever seen. Moo Cow Fuck Juice anyone? And maybe while not fitting into this group, Eddie Izzard is fantastic as well.

I love comedy and humor in all it's forms. My personal favorites are dark humor, such as Very Bad Things, Currdled, and Pulp Fiction, and satire, like Dr. Strangelove.

Tide

I enjoy subversive comedy, although it's always hard to find. The only stuff I can think of is at least 10 years old. Luckily for Bill Hicks Bush's son made the exact same mistakes he did so some of his material is still valid.

in Britain we also had The Day Today and Brasseye. Comody sketch shows in the form of the news. Utterly hillarious, if you haven't seen any I'd recommend it, has to one of the most rewatchable shows I've ever seen.

The main newsreader from the above shows, played by Chris Morris, went on to write a radio show that got made into a 6 episode series called JAM, which is easily the darkest comedy I've ever seen. the only way I've been able to describe it is if you were to think of what Monty Python did to comedy by removing the punchline and making the set up the focal point of the laughs. With JAM it's as if the situation has been made so bizarre and unfunny it somehow becomes brilliant. But to be honest, the first watch is rough but when you know whats coming you appreciate the talent from the actors and the warped stories. It is still not for everyone though.
