quick thought for all
If you been reading my journal you will know more detailed about what my (my wife and I) life has been like and what we have been going through. The abridged version is my wife is due in 1 month, 2 months or so ago; my father-in-law had gone on vacation on a cruise to Mexico for his 70th birthday. He came back a little under the weather, and the next evening had a monster stroke & heart attack. He was sick getting better, a little responsive went to a rehab center, back to hospital with pneumonia was getting better and last Monday passed away. It was a very trying time for us my wife is very very close with her dad, and every day was work, visit her dad, and was just very hard on her due to everything and the fact that she is pregnant.
My father-in-law and I had a communication problem he felt more comfortable speaking Russian though he did talk English. My wife used to visit him every Sunday (due to love not a feeling of like ohh I have to, nor did he need help he was in seemingly perfect health outside of high blood pressure), and I did not normally go a lot I had other things to do, wanted to play a game, etc… I regret it, it is something to add to my list of things I should have or could have done different In life you can learn from every event, and a lesson that is learned here is how fragile we all are. He was very energetic out going, physically his upper body strength was shockingly, yet one Saturday night changed it all. I guess the point here that I wanted to just say to everyone is if you do not call your grandparents frequently, your parents, friends, neighbors, you do not tell your significant other I love you, hug them often enough, you should. It is easy to get caught up watching our television, or chilling and putting off that call until tomorrow, but sometimes there is no tomorrow. Same thing with going on vacation, living life. We all know the phrase ‘carpe diem’ it is something I throw out to all of you to just take a moment and reflect on yourself, and start using more minutes on your cell phone. Ok fine enough advertisement for the phone companies, but seriously we should all reflect and take a minute make a list of who we should call who we have just been putting off, or visit, or videotape them since our next generation will never know their grandparent, or take that trip for yourself, or just to tell your spouse that one extra time I love you, because you can. I am sorry if I rambled most of this was typed at 4am because I can not sleep well since this happened. |
I am very sorry for your and your wife's loss. I hope that although this is a tremendous negative experience that you are able to find a way to separate it from the overwhelmingly positive one that you are (or are going to) experience. Your point is well taken, though, and we often let life get in the way of making sure that the loved ones in our lives are constantly reminded of the esteem that we hold them in. Even if parents, etc "know we love them" or "understand" when we are too busy to call, it is not an excuse. Best wishes with everything.

I'm also terribly sorry about your loss. I definitely will take your advice to heart and also should say congratulations to your near new life. There is always more to be done when it comes to bridging any relationship with family and I second your thoughts.

Sorry for the loss of a family member. I have trouble telling people I love them so I hope the fact that I keep in contact and remember important details of their lives reflect my feelings to them
