help me out here

You guys are always here for me so I got a problem I need advice in.
So about a week ago I started talking to this girl.
She's pretty cute and fun to be around but there was one thing she hadn't told me.
She had a boyfriend.
When I found out, naturally I backed off a little.
A couple days ago, I'd say 3, she broke up with him and she told him it was because of me.
Now the guy wants to beat my ass and I just want to stop talking to this girls but there's too much going on.
She told me her dad walked out on her family.
Her step dad is a drunk compulsive gambler and her mother has cancer and is slowly dying.
When I told her we needed to stop talking she started crying and I didn't have the heart to hang up.
She's been telling me she's never met anyone like me and she wants a relationship but I'm not trying to get my ass kicked by the ex and his friends (who paid me a nice threatening visit today).

Oh man.
What do I do?

First off, call the police if you see him again.

Secondly, erase the thought of having a relationship with this woman.

Cut your losses.

You two very well may have the most magical relationship in the history of love but you'd probably fair better with someone else. Preferably someone who won't put you in such compromising and dangerous situations and maybe even someone with a lot less baggage.

Manic_Skafe has it. Like you said, you want nothing to do with her, so leave it at that.

A few questions come up, though. How does she (and now her angry ex) know where you live? I ask as someone out there may be able to elaborate on how to protect yourself from any harm. If Loveline has taught us anything, she has obvious "daddy issues," which means she will say anything to fill that void in her life. She is NOT worth it. It's obvious by the kind of guy she was dating before you. The only way you can help her is if you can get her some psychiatric help, so she can get over her self esteem issues, her issues with her father and these seemingly abusive relationships.

You've stepped into a pit of drama, my friend. Extricate yourself with all haste.

Make sure Raging Boyfriend knows that's your plan, too.

Yo, Moonie, tell us what happens, man.
Manic Skafe, great advice. Nothing good happens
that fast, in my experience (22 years of dating).

So I finally went through with ending the relationship about a week ago (yes, I took my sweet time) and after the sad goodbye and everything I felt pretty good.

looks like I got out just in time because today she told me she got engaged to her ex-boyfriend who's going to jail in a couple days.

that chick was a train wreck.
thanks for the help guys.

I grew up on that book. Greatest novel of all time, IMHO. First read that one 5th or 6th grade, and have been rereading it every few years ever sense.
