What in your opinion makes a good TFPer?
What makes you think, Wow, he/she is really a good poster, or Wow, he/she really contributes to TFP. ???
For me neatness in their posts. Things that are messy to me: No spaces between paragraphs. Or no paragraphs/spaces at all with a huge post. Sentences without a period, or full stop at the end. Wrong coding, or screwed up coding. Telling us more than just a simple answer in regards to the topic. I like when people tell us why they are answering a certain way, and/or tell us a little, (or a big) story. Commenting, and questioning other peoples posts/replies. And even better when the other person comes back to answer/reply to the person who commented, or questioned their post/reply. Someone who is more than just a hit, and run type of poster. Id love to hear your thoughts? Last edited by Miss Mango; 12-29-2007 at 03:34 PM.. |

Type in understandable sentences (I realize English may not be everyone's first language, but do your best,) be respectful of other members, follow the rules (and if you disagree with one, bring it up reasonably instead of whining.)
That's the good/bad dichotomy that determines what will keep you around and what will get you warned and banned, and what will get you upgraded to full member status when the time comes. Beyond that, it's just a matter of whether I like you or not. |

For the second, my personal opinion is that a poster that makes a logical and well presented point(especially with regards to a view I don’t agree with) is a truly a good poster. However, that is not to say these posters are the only “good” posters. I will consistently read people’s posts if they write humorous ones or if I think they’d be interesting from past experience. For the third, assuming they follow the rules, I think simply posting consistently and voluminously probably makes me think that. What any discussion board needs is material to discuss, and that’s what such individuals provide. |

Extreme emotional disturbance. Minimal self confidence. Social anxiety disorder. Dissatisfying personal relationships.
Pretty much anything that drives a person to turn to an internet message board for solace.

Most of the above, but including:
- The ability to accurately articulate their opinion (something I'm definitely lacking) - An open mind - The confidence to call someone on their bullshit - The character to admit they're wrong and apologise for any wrongdoing.

Those who come to the community looking for advice on what to do, and then actually update us with the fallout from the course they chose to follow.
A thread full of articulate choices on how to act has some merit but the discussion can go so much farther when the consequences are revealed. It's what sets us apart from Ann Landers or Fark. A community can only be fostered through shared experience and our growth here is stunted without knowing the consequences. To wit: Quote:

The ability to open up on subjects that you normally wouldn't like discussing with the people you deal with on a daily basis.
Willingness to take a joke and understanding what it is to give and receive in the name of good fun and entertainment. Having the insight and knowledge to know when you are wrong. Having trust in the person next to you... Knowing that the are not out to get you. A TFPer is human. A human is flawed. But we will eventually fix that.

What makes a good TFPer is someone who likes to share. Either their incredible knowledge on a given topic, or their humor, or their experiences through our journals. I love it when people can open up and share a bit of themselves through this board.

For the record, I believe you have accurately articulated your opinion - I know what you mean. I just enjoy being difficult sometimes. Oh, but how can I be sure. Carry on, folks. |
