The naming of the Amundsen-Scott base is an insult
I dont know where this should sit cos I cant find Titled Travel
But in my opinion it is a gross insult that the American's named their south pole base "Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station" It was a race and Amundsen got everything, literally everything, right, while Scott gambled badly and was badly provisioned and ruled by class and national arrogance; and condemned his men to death. Scott was certainly brave and tough, but his clumsy, ill-prepared, and arrogant leadership sent himself and 4 brave men to death, and would have killed two more if not for the superhuman exploits of Tom Crean. It is an insult to the achievements of the greatest polar explorer who ever lived to have his name portrayed as equal to an incompetent like Scott - who should be respected for his bravery, but no more than that,
